Deja Vu ... another 750 in the garage.
« on: April 13, 2010, 03:34:36 PM »
While this might look like the 72' I rebuilt for my wife's bday last year http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=56517.msg609507#msg609507 - it's just deja vu. Picked this up today when I wasnt looking for another project. Brought it home, added some gas and charged the battery ... then rode it around the neighborhood. Yeah, come on!!! Seems pretty solid and unmolested - but needs the carbs (plus bunches of other parts) cleaned. I'll gather parts this summer and fall and make it a winter project.

Yeah, for it's age and mileage it has been kept in good shape (why I bought it) - but it requires a bunch of maintenance for (safe) daily use because it has been sitting for a minute. So, if I'm gonna do all that - then I'll make it purty.

Go back from vacation and decided to get motivated on somewhat starting this project. Already have some parts gathered and others on order - might as well start pulling it apart so I send stuff off the be powder coated.

Continuing the dismantle ... gotta love all the butt-connectors in the headlight.

New one on me, but looks like factory wiring 'inside' the huge buckhorn handlebars? The exhaust was a PIA to get off.

The header adapters 'screws' would not budge. Even with a copious amounts of WD40 and an impact. Ended up stripping two of them out without making any progress. Guessing the drill is next. This is as far as I got before I was just too tired and my back was too much an ache'n.

Are you using JIS screwdriver Bits??Like this http://www.rjrcooltools.com/vessel.cfmA overnite soak with PB blaster, then a good whack with a JIS bit( moistened with oil/grease and the tip dipped in sand-gives it an extra bite) in an impact driver should do the trick. Good luck

Wow ... June of last year. My very own ZOMBIE THREAD. June 2010 was when I ordered the tank/tail section pictured below. Benjie told me he was busy and it would be '10 weeks'. That turned out to be 11 months. Must say I'm disappointed with Benjie. Communications were almost nil and when he said he had finished it back in Feb/Mar .. it still took 3 more months for him to invoice me and ship.

Now .. on to the project. It's stuffed back in the corner under/behind several others. Worked on the wife's 1954 F100 all winter. It's out and about and she's driving it every day. Next in line is my 68 Mustang GT. After that ... some old skool mini-bikes. .. and so on - and so on ... Hopefully I'll get this CB finished up. I really miss my F model I built & sold.

The metal/design/welding is top shelf. There's a couple small 'pits' (holes) in the surface that you can see close up. Not sure what that's all about. Like 'pot-marks'. The polishing does not look as good in person. Heavy streaks from wheel burn. I'm sure I can clean that up. Overall ... I'm happy with it. It is a pretty freaking cool piece - art work even .. and I have it on display in the Living Room of the house. And, it was pricey too ... 3X what I paid for the bike (dont tell my wife). Because of the time factor/etc - retrospect - I would not have bought it. I'm sure my opinion on that will change when I get it finished ... :D
