Red blocks between fins on 750
« on: October 10, 2010, 03:27:14 PM »
I think they are technically anti-resonance rubbers that sit between the cooling fins on the barrels of my recently acquired and utterly shabby 750/4, but on scraping away the horrible black paint which a previous owner had applied, I find that these rubbers are red rather than the nlack I would expect. Any significance? Or just a bit of old tarting-up? Just that if they are of no consequence then they can go in the bin, but if they have any significance in the tale that itis a Yoshi 810 engine then I could do with knowing.

According to the OEM fische for the 750 4, your correct, theyre used an an anti-vibration material. There was an obvious reason that they were originally included in the design, but if my motors didnt have them I wouldnt be stressed about it.  8)

I've seen white and black ones, but never red.  Older ones were white, new ones from Honda are black and cost a FORTUNE, like several dollars each IIRC.

A lot of new bikes with air-cooled motors seem to have these "pucks" inserted between the fins.  I believe they are intended to dampen vibrations that cause noise, so that with them installed the sound level is reduced or perhaps buzzing noise is removed.

The small bikes in our fleet of instruction models for new riders, are always popping them out and over the years I've picked-up a handful from the parking lot.  They don't stay in very well and don't seem to do any harm if not present.  People often remove them to clean-up the appearance.
