Hey, Gordon! Nice shot of your bike, looks like in Estes Park! I love the Big Thompson canyon ride up and the "long way" past Blackhawk back to Lakewood. Lots of 80+ MPH sweepers, both ways.

Yep, that's Estes Park as seen from the dirt road in front of the Stanley Hotel.

btripp and dusterdude - nice to see some fellow central VA folks.  I'm in Richmond as well, and see CBs all over the place...either of you own that white 550 cafe racer?  Most sightings are 750Ks, and there's one bastard who has a 750F2/3 that looks exactly like mine but with shinier paint.  At least mine has character.....*grumble*

Here in Cleveland the only time I see other old hondas is at the motorcycle shows on display,  If it's an old bike on the road, it's either a Harley or a BMW.  Maybe we can change that.

I forgot, I did know of 1 CB750K (early 70's model) w/ a fairing (Not a Wind Jammer) and a
California sidecar. It used to belong to the Honda Dealer years ago. Only thing is, the sidecar
seemed to be putting a good strain on the 750. Next thing you know, he gets a pretty good deal
on a couple of mid 70's Gold Wings (to make one out of both) and now the sidecar is being
pushed pretty well with the Wing power. And alas, another SOHC 750 has moved on.  Bill :(

Well, I just found out that my buddy with the Wing and sidecar is getting ready to part with it and
revert back to His preference, which is Suzuki (mainly R-5s and GT750s, you know, Water Buffalos!)
Back to the drawing board.  Bill :-\

In the 8 months I have been here in Berkeley, I have seen quite a few sohc hondas.

This area seems to have lots of vintage bikes (especially bmw's).

Haven't met the owners, just see them parked here and there in fairly good shape.

It seems strange that a bike that was produced in such huge numbers is so scarce.  Especially when folks seem to get so excited by them.

I always get guys coming up to me all excited telling me how this was their first bike and they wished they had never gotten rid of it....

Why do you think`they are so scarce?

First post, new member.  In Birmingham Alabama I have seen two sohcs in the five years I have owned my '74 750.  First was on the sidewalk at a walmart and I spoke with the owner who had just returned from a trip to Virginia on it.  Second was spotted one night in a turn lane nearby.

Two years ago I rode in a charity event with 70 or 80 other bikes, 95% of which were Harleys - No other sohc was in the event (don't even remember another Honda though I would guess there was at least a Gold Wing).  Mine did receive quite a bit of attention though.

By the way, the weather was good here this week so I was able to ride to work twice - not bad for January!

I'm about five hours from Laconia NH and since 1973 only missed the Loudon national road race event (while they had it) a couple years. Early on there were hundreds of CB750's, and great British bikes as well. Nowadays it's unusual to spot more than a half dozen CB's amongst the two hundred thousand or so that visit the area. At the track last year I was parked alongside an Aprilia and tons of other nice new stuff and within minutes my K3 drew a large crowd. It's rewarding to have all these knowledgable people pay homage to this great old machine. There may not be so many of us left, but we still do turn heads!

Over the past 30 years every time I saw an old-school bike on the road (rubber gaiters, big headlight, upright riding position) I would check if it was a CB750.

NEVER.

I think I must have one of the very few of these bikes in a country of over 4 million people (New Zealand).

Maybe 20 750's all up at a guess. And boys, I turn heads everywhere I go, which is nice, but it's not why I brought this model.

There's a guy just down the road from me with a mint 400F. Spoke to him once last year then never saw him or the bike again so then again maybe there are heaps of guys with nice Hondas parked up just lurking away and never out on the roads. Who knows?

I believe that in the early days when the pipes rusted out (leaded fuel) and the cost of new pipes was, and still is, pretty prohibitive, the bikes would be sold off and turned into  'Bucket racers'. I don't know if that is a common term but it means amateur track race-bike here.

In the St. Louis area I see a handful at different times during the warm season. mostly 750s. Seems like they're more prevalant along the less beaten paths though. Like you guys my 750 sometimes draws an audience when I stop somewhere. Saw two guys on beautiful 750 chopers at my credit union one Saturday who were so impressed with my stock k5 they took pics of it. Go figure..Anyway,there seem to be quite a few that have been bought as parts bikes and have mostly been left to rot or robbed. Einyodler could add to this....Ya out there Stephan?

I have thought about putting out an add looking for these bikes where I live. Would be nice to get a bunch for cheap.

I see those ads all of the time. There are so many, it makes me think they must be effective. But, they mostly appear on the free classified boards, so maybe they are just cheap and not that effective. The only consistant ads that I see in newspapers is "Corvettes Wanted".

I have been scouring junkyards looking for bits for my 550. I notice that I see a lot of 750's, but few 500-550's. I also come across a surprising number of "naked" Goldwings.

What I never see are Harleys or old BMW's. I also never see these on the road. Since their value is high, I assume they must squirreled away somewhere, but, I never see them.

Mostly what I see in my area is H-D and Sport Bikes w/ a fewer number of cruisers and
Gold Wings. Once, about a year ago, I saw a Norton Commando (Mint!!), turned out to be a
"Fast Back" model. I never see any of the Old Hondas. As soon as get something going, I hope to
get it out and maybe it'll give others, in the area, to push to get em out and RIDE!!  Later on, Bill

Junkyards are my "hobby" so I can explain the Nortons. They are like Chrysler "Hemi" engines. Every older junkyard has a Hemi squirreled away, waiting for "the day". The same is true of Nortons. Every other junkyard has a Norton hidden away, waiting for "the day".  I ran into one the other day. The owner had bought one for $800.00. I offered him three times that, he wouldn't hear it.

I hear you, I've got most all of mine from a motorcycle salvage that used to let them go pretty
reasonable. Then, a buddy (who was kinda working with them) let me in on a deal where I could
pick up on some freebies simply because I voluntarily helped him quite a bit. All of those that I
picked up on were anything from fixer-uppers to parts donors. I've got about 7 Hondas with good
possibilities. Better go for now.  Later on,  Bill

Maybe all of the CBs found their way into the inland northwest. After I bought my 650sc, I started to notice the number of people with SOHC4s. I have seen at least five standard cb650s, one other 82 nighthawk, seven or eight 750s and numerous other SOHC4s. At a local dealership, they had a stock CB350 (cant remember year) with twenty thousand original miles! Mind you, we also have hundreds of late 70s early 80s kawasaki's and yamaha's too. I have noticed a lot more of these common bikes pushed into mechanics and put out for sale in the recent two years. Gas prices make you see guys in suits and ties, riding their old 450s downtown to go to work. I love it. Maybe I can capture some riders here in the act. Oh, and I can always scan a classified add here in Spokane during the spring, LOADED with these kind of bikes!

Here in Greece, I'm the only one still ridding a SOHC. I haven't seen another one for a couple of years. A guy in my neighborhood had a K1 police bike but I haven't seen him in months. I've heard of 5-6 poeple that have SOHC's but they never take them out on the road!!!
One guy that started talking to me at a red light that he had a 400F some years ago said I was a sinner for having it as a daily transport!!!! I would rather ride it every day, every summer load it with everything except the kitchen sink and hit the road for 3-4 weeks, then having it all shined up sitting in my garage. We only live once......

By looking on the Fappr map, I see that there are a few members out here in central Calif. but nobody seems to want to hook up and compare notes. This state is full of great putts but it is a more modern clik (Harley's,crotch rockets,etc.). I did indeed love all of the attention the ole 750 got everywhere I took it last summer though.Too many clogged highways to get hooked up but hey?.... Isn't it that way everywhere?

Well, I know of three 750's that are active in the Burlington, VT area (including mine). I know where one lives and I now where the other one parks (I swear that guy must ride every day in the summer!!  ;D And who can blame him, right in the middle of downtown we have free parking for Motorcycles).

Hey Mr. Breeze,

I am out riding every week.  Yesterday, Just revisited one of my new favorite spots.. hwy1 between Pt. Reyes and Tomales bay in MArin county.  a few days agao I went exploring up Mt. Diablo.   The ride down to Los Angeles for the holidays went well, though coming back on new years day, we got stuck in Atascadero waiting for the downpour to let up!

I only expect to be aorund here a few more months before I graduate... after that I could end up anywhere!  Thinking about Phiilly, AZ, Portland.... not sure where, yet.

It would be great to get together at least oncebefore I go...   ;)
