Dumb Idea?
« on: May 26, 2010, 04:48:08 AM »
I am still working on my 750 but already dreaming about the next project, I really want a road racer style two stroke but yamaha rd's and other manufacture two strokes seem to be skyrocketing in price. I was wondering if anyone had heard of  getting a smaller cb 100 or 200 frame and swapping in a yamaha dt 250, 360 or 400 engine which seem to be really plentiful. Is there anything that would make this a dumb idea besides all the fab work? I had a 74 dt 360 and it was pretty quick and if i remember correctly would do about 75-80 pretty easily..

Just be carefull how you position the motor in the new frame.

Speaking of dumb ideas.
I put a Honda XL600 motor in a CB360 frame
--a longer swing arm was added so the rear wheel would clear the oil tank.

The engine must be too far forward--serious nose dive when braking.
Rear sprocket must be too big--when on the power the front end
comes right up off the ground quickly.
--too hairy to ride I think
--It's become a display piece.
Rides: 75 CB750F, 48 Indian Chief, 67 Triumph TR6, 63Honda CA95
          83 XL600R in CB360 Frame
          3-wheel electric tilting cycle

Why not go the whole nine yards - get a secondhand and cheap two stroke snowmobile motor and bolt that into a CB frame! 700cc two-stroke Hmmmmmm  ;D

Gerhed, that bike sure looks like it will keep you on the edge of the seat!  Its encouraging to see that it can be done, I'm hoping for engine placement not being such a big deal since 2stroke engines are so small, thanks for the info and tips! snowmobile engine hmmmm used to have an old blizzard 440, that thing was crazy fast
