Daytona Bike Week
« on: February 02, 2006, 11:23:04 PM »
I don't know the history of gatherings at Bike week iin Daytona......so are
there any SOHC events planned?  For the first time this year I will be riding
over from Orlando and would be interested in attending any.

I'm going down from Toronto Canada for a couple of weeks....unfortunately it's just before bike week so I won't be at any of the events...

As for what's happening check out http://www.officialbikeweek.com/

I'm going up from Melbourne but probably on my Shadow. My 550 is a great go-to-work scoot, but I don't feel it is yet ready for a 100-mile trip. There are metric bike events but I'm not aware of any SOHC events per se. However, they are expecting 500,000 bike over the course of 10 days so I bet you'll see a few. It is an absolute zoo. I go up for a day and I've had enough. I might make two one-day trips though

I'm not far from Daytona. I'd be up for meeting in New Smyrna beach or Deltona. Even if we had a half dozen SOHC's, that would be cool. Let's see what we can get going.

Four of us are coming down from Gainesville. Hopefully Ill have my 750 done by then. If not Ill be on a DOHC750 with my 3 buds on their SOHC 500,550,and750. I hope I have mine done. Dont wanna be the only one left out. We are going down for the vintage races on the 5th and 6th. We went last year and it is great. I think my friend from Jax. is bringing his newly finished, and beautiful CR750.

The vintage races are the first weekend--I'd go to that and then GET OUT OF TOWN.
Great bikes at the AHRMA vintage event.

You lucky barsteward Gerhed, that little old guy is one of my heroes ;D

He's still a force to be reckoned with behind the wheel of a 250GTO too 8)

Very cool!

I got to meet Surtees when he was inducted into the International Motorsport Hall of Fame (girlfriend's dad was getting inducted too, so I got to rub elbows with a lot of people that weekend).  Of course I was most impressed with Surtees (for obvious reasons - multi-motorcycle World Champ/Formula 1 world champ, just to name a few).  I even got to get my picture taken with him while I was sitting on one of his old GP bikes - an MV Agusta .  He was a really nice bloke.

For youngsters out there who don't know who he is, here is a brief history.
