Saw a reminder of what not to do on a hot day today
« on: May 26, 2010, 07:07:12 PM »
Was driving home from work in the company car and saw a scooter on it's side on the side of the road. I didn't want to just go ahead and pick it up since if someone only saw me picking it up they may have assumed that I knocked it over or whatever. Made a quick call to my local PD but they wouldn't run the plates (understandable due to privacy concerns) but did say they could send a car around but it would likely take an hour or more. So I knocked on a door or 2 and found the owner and gave him a hand picking up his Vespa (older guy and I didn't want him to have a heart attack!).

Of note, it was about 32 degrees celsius today and bright sun. Stand melted into the pavement and over she went.

Just a friendly reminder to use a puck or park on concrete that doesn't melt now that the crazy hot weather is here for those of us in the western hemisphere!!

Several years ago, a friend had his Gold Wing fall on him when the kickstand went through soft asphalt.  Suffered 2nd degree burns and an ankle broken in 2 places. Would have been even worse if he hadn't been with 4 riding buddies who pulled the bike off of him.

heres a rainy weather one.   theres a stop sign that is by my work that had a pothole close to the white line where you stop. one day it had just rained so the pothole had been filled in with water.  guy pulls up to the stop sign on a bike and doesnt realise how deep the pothole is cause of the water.  so of course  he goes to put his foot down and it ends up in the pothole and over he goes.
But thence came the Great Schism, when the two like tribes diverged, and the Bobbers did take the Road to Cruiserdom and the Cafe Racers did ride to Sportbikedom and they did pollute the lands along their paths with their abominable spawn of Choppers, Stuntaz and like manner of unholy douchebaggery

Well at home I only have to worry about the mud.

In town there are no cement parking spaces so I use a
2x3 inch piece of 1/4 inch thick plastic. Works fine.

i carry a flattened can that some Hunts diced tomatoes come in. it fits into the tool tray under the seat on the k4 750. it also works if i park in sand or dirt,
