Pics of my rat bike build It's done!
« on: February 05, 2006, 05:14:08 AM »
A friend of mine with limited space and time has been looking for a decent 1000 dollar bike to tool around on for a long time now.  I finally decide to build him one out of spare parts in the shop.  Since we're both unemployed artist types, the budget is really tight (uh, zero really).   And everything I ride eventually turns into a rat anyway, I thought I'd just start out there on this one.

The starting point.

I think I'm gonna like this. Can't go wrong with a set of flat bars as a starting point. ;D

Some may ask, Why?  I say, Why not?

Looks like a good one to me.

Hey Jorge,
Looks like a cool proiject!  Regarding the broken triple clamp, isn't there supposed to be a washer or spacer in the slot cut where the tree bolts to the fork?  I think there's supposed to be one there to prevent overtightening and snapping the casting.  When the clamp is properly tightened, the washer will still be "free" and not captured.  ???

Doing real good with the low budget. I like. Could you post a few more details on the seat foam and cover you made? Thanks.

Did you cut down the rod in the shocks?

Thanks been there, posted twice. ;)  Do you have a pic of the die you used the re thread the rod?  What have you been using to get them back together? Brute strength?  I'm going to build a jig to compress the spring next time.

Slick!  I like those rear shocks!  ;)  Neat front fender, too.  All in all, nice job!

UMMMM. . . .  (looking)  . . .  Yes.

Looks nice.  Definitely like the front fender.  What's the seat made out of?

Looks good!

Where'd the cannon go?  Or did the test firing go bad?

Hey, pretty decent for something on a tight budget. I mean, to look at it, you'd never think it
was on a Tight budget. Good job and have you ever thought of putting that cannon on the rear
(Making sure that it was securely mounted of course!) and use it for occasional boost?  ??? Just a
thought. Aw right, aw right, I'm gone. :)           Later on, Bill  ;)
