He's here
« on: June 08, 2010, 06:38:54 AM »
Declan Gregory Carr joined us yesterday (a month early) evening at 7:07pm weighing 6 lbs 8 1/2 oz, 19 inches long, and absolutely perfect.  Aimee was in labor for 20 hours and was pushing for the last 1 1/2 hours + but has rebounded fast.  The overwhelming emotion of watching the one you love struggle for so long and then meeting your new child has been described to me many times before but I never understood until I broke down last night.

Since our dog was at home alone for so long (and probably because she wanted some peace and quiet) Aimee sent me home last night and I slept like I never have.  7 hours without moving a muscle.  Now it's time to learn how to do all the stuff like changing diapers, feeding, even holding him (which they had to show me).

Thanks to all of you that offered such kind words over the last year+ while we were working to get to this point.  Next step is to find SOHC baby clothes...

Congrats!! There is no feeling like being a dad!!

You will be fine with all of that caring stuff...it is amazing how it just sort of happens! Everything from diapers to bathing, to dealing with the cord etc etc etc it's scary at first but in no time you'll be a pro!

Congrats man!  That is still a good sized boy for a month early.
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

Here's the fun part: When you look down into the crib and see a beautiful little baby and all is right and you can't imagine a better world.... get strapped in.  It just keeps getting better.  Sure, you'll have naysayers telling you, "wait 'til the teen years... blah blah blah".  The dynamics that occur over time are mind blowing.  Enjoy and cherish the young years.... you'll miss them (I often want to hold other people's babies) but they are replaced with more challenges, fun, ups and downs (what are ups without downs?).  It just keeps getting better.

The other thing that I find is that having children "trues you up".  Once you've had kids, your priorities become much more clear.

Enjoy - you're in for the ride of your life ;)

I love the "trues you up" in your comment..... what a perfect way to say how a child allows a person to re-define life's purpose...

To me... having  children taught the actual meaning of love and sacrifice...  I understood the concepts.... but once you have a child the true meaning of the words become heart felt core feelings

That is awesome! Like gamma said, love every minute of it. They change so fast and new things will keep coming at you. Young'uns will always surprise you!
One VERY vital skill though that you MUST learn. FAST diaper changes!! ;D
Get that new diaper ready to go. Zip off the old one, wipe fast and get that new one on! Them wipes are cold and babies have no bladder control! :D

I keep looking forward to the later years. high school sports and all that jazz but I always stay grounded so I dont miss anything.
Just wait till the first day you are at work and your little one calls you and asks if you can come home. if you don't hate your job, you will then, at least for a bit.

There is no adventure like parenting!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Next step is to find SOHC baby clothes...

Congrats Cville!   Just download the SOHC4 logo and take it to any embroidery shop with the article of clothing you want it on.
