'76 750F frame & '76K motor: sprocket alignment?
« on: June 03, 2010, 08:06:50 PM »
I've looked around but been so overwhelmed by this project - more details on that later - that I haven't found the answer. So here it is:

I have a '76 750F with a bad motor and a '76K replacement motor that I'm going to be putting on the F frame. I know it will bolt on the same, but will the sprockets line up, or will I have to jigger that to make it right?

MANY more questions to come I'm sure as I start taking a look at this motor that's been sitting outside under a carport for a while (not mine - PO's). It's not locked up and seems to shift through all the gears, so I'm hoping for the best. Thanks guys.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Same thing. Bolt it up.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Maybe the only difference you will find is the K will have a 18 tooth sprocket vs. the 17 tooth of the F.  Either will work fine.  With the 18 you will give up a bit of power but at cruising speed you will be a few hundred rpm lower with less vibration.  For a highway cruiser stick with the 18 but for tearing round town maybe the 17.
