Swingarm bushings and sleeve measurements for 550F
« on: February 09, 2006, 10:19:35 PM »
I'm looking to replace my swingarm bushings and, if they turn out to be worn, the pivot sleeves as well. I've got a lathe so I can turn some up myself without having to pay 30 bucks each, but I don't have the measurements and I don't want to take a micrometer and pin gauge to my worn ones. Does anyone (Terry comes to mind) have measurements for the bushing and sleeve? Anything else down there usually wear out? I'll replace the plugged zerk down there while I'm at it. I figure phosphor bronze for the bushing and stainless steel for the sleeve -- is that right?

If anyone else wants these parts, I'm sure I'll end up buying more material than I need, so I can turn up a bunch if there's demand for some. I'll sell 'em for cost of material (plus a beer).

I have a 550F swing arm off. Need to head out to work and fight 3" of snow on the ground. It was so nice yesterday I rode. I wont be home till late so I hope someone steps in so you can find out sooner. Not sure if my bushings are worn.

Thanks grumburg -- but I need nominal measurements, not limits. Also, I need the nominal OD of the bushing as well.

I got these from the Honda four shop in Germany they cost next to nothing Phos Bronze, I'm sure buying the metal would cost more.

Well, to be honest half the fun is in turning them on the lathe.  ;D I was thinking of finding some of that nice SAE 841 oil-impregnated bronze. It's a toss-up between that stuff and 544 ultra-hard bearing-grade bronze. I suspect the 544 will last longer if properly maintained and greased but I bet the 841 will take more neglect and abuse due to its self-lubricating properties. Any machinists in here have any opinions? ;D

Anyone have nominal dimensions for the bearing and sleeve ID and OD?
