What am I looking for?
« on: July 01, 2010, 02:28:26 PM »
Gang, I just snapped the spring that is connecting my rear brake pedal with the... something... underneath the oil tank. It's electric. No idea what it is called, I thought it was the trigger for my brake light, but that seems false. I am having a hard time finding it on the available scematics.

What am I looking for? And where should I look?

Your first thought was right.  It's the brake light switch for the brake pedal.  I've never looked for one to purchase, so I'm not sure if they're available separately.

We'll need to know what bike this is before we can help with sourcing a part.

Yes, it's the brake light switch.  And you can find a replacement spring off the bike in Gordon's garage.

You gotta get past the booby traps, and my guard 2 1/2 year old first! ;D

I'm great with kids, but the boobietraps sound better

The model I'm looking for is a K2. EDIT: Found the part on a K6 diagram. That'd do the trick nicely.

And how is it possible that my rear pedal still triggers the brake light, without this spring?

Are you squeezing the front as well?    ;D

Hahah, I wish I was: that'd mean I wouldn't be waiting for a replacement part for my broken master cylinder. Yea, it's rear brake only for the time being, woo! Just like driving a car, not so nimble.

Well I'm a little stumped as to how it would trigger the light without the spring pulling on that switch.   ???

This ain't over yet! ;D

I want to know how your brake pedal is turning on the brake light if there's no physical connection between it and the switch.  The spring is the only connection between the two that I've ever known of.

Sorry Gordo, there is no rabbit in the hat. You are right, it is not possible and it probably was my imagination that my rear brake light did work.  ::)
