"Genuine" 550 carb kits?
« on: July 05, 2010, 08:15:06 PM »
I scoured the web for carb kits for my 550 that didn't have that stupid giant o-ring masquerading as a float bowl gasket. I found "Genuine" carb kits from a reputable online reseller with no pictures attached, but I went for it, only to find that they had the stupid o-ring.

Also, the area that would typically have the Honda logo and info was X-acto knife cut out of each of the four kits.

Here's the kit label next to a real genuine part:

Here's the contents of the kit:

And here's why these kits are retarded:

Are these truly the official Honda kit? Is there somewhere I can get nice, real float bowl gaskets?

The kit pictured on the right is the correct kit for the early CB550 Carbs.

Coat one side of the oring with Gaskacinch and put a thin coat of Gaskacinch in the bowl groove, let dry.  Fit the gasket in the groove maximizing the radius in each corner.  They'll fit fine.

If you have problems with the tackyness of Gaskacinch, use paper to separate the parts, start at one edge and pull the paper out as you position the ring in the groove.

Honda never made mold-to-shape gaskets for the bowls on these carbs.

I wasn't going to freak out and say, "Website XYZ sucks ballz!" before I knew whether or not these carb kits were real. It was David Silver Spares.

Thanks for the info. I've had bad luck with the o-ring gaskets on my 750, mold-to-fit gaskets solved all of my bowl leaking problems. Too bad I can't find any for the 550.
