Where can I get just a float pin?
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:17:35 AM »
Where can I get just a float pin?  My float is fine, but would like to replace the pin.

Western Hills Honda sells them WITH the float for close to $50.  OUCH!

Thanks,

~Joe

Go to the hardware store and look in the aisle where they keep the sheet metal.  You should find a rack with varying sizes of brass rod. Compare to your old pin to find the right diameter, buy a couple of feet worth, cut to length, have spare stock to last for years.

I have pins if you want one. Why do you want to replace yours? Too tight, loose, correded? These can be corrected.

i ran in to a similar problem when i was rebuilding a spare set of carbs for a 76 750. they were sitting for who knows how long. In one of the carbs the float was seized to the pin and the pin was seized to the carb. NOTHING would budge them free. i endend up cutting the pin off with a hacksaw. i had to then find a new pin and float.

Screwed up by a pair or pliers...was bent a bit, but I straightened it...re-installed and float moved freely.

Just made my own set for a 400F last week.  I found that the local hobby shop had various diameter brass rod in stock.  The job was extremely easy to do.

McMaster Carr. I order their high speed drill blanks for everything. You can either buy a pin or rod size. (pin is hardened tool steel) Either way less than $10.
