Pin punch it out.  I haven't re-assembled yet, but it looks like it won't be reusable.  I know someone on this site makes replacement kits, or you could just head down to the hardware store and look for a roll-pin of the appropriate length and diameter.

Hi Guys,

I remember threads about this.  And, yes, HondaMan talked about a kit using a small screw and a special nut.  He had quite a few kits....... You might PM (email) him and find out if he still has them....... ;)

If you wanted to stay with the OEM look you can get the pins from Yamiya too but they're about $11 bucks plus shipping from Japan but its another option.

Be careful if you use a punch as you could bend the bracket.  I put a small socket on the head end and small press pin on the crimped end.  I then use a C-clamp to push it through.  I also put some duck tape on the tank in that area to protect it.  I was able to reuse my pins.  I did not bother to remove the spring latch and the painter just masked that off.  To recrimp that pin back on I used a BB held on the C clamp with tape.
Yamiya has the 23mm, 25mm & 30mm pins.

I drilled out the one side of the rivet, than used a small pick and hammered it out carefully.  I'll look for a replacement down the road (like a year...) when I'm getting the bike back together.  Probably just get the Hondaman kit!!!

I had good luck using a small nail as a punch. That way I dont bend the tabs on the tank.

The pin holding the spring, came out fine.  Smacked the other side good a couple of times before I realized i was bending the tab.  Oh yeah, I'm gonna get that sucker out of there!!!

Use the press method described above...you will not damage that bracket...
