fitting Kehin CR
« on: July 31, 2010, 06:48:07 PM »
Hi every one, i just got a set of Kehin CR carbs to replace my originals that were just messing around too much. Problem is that the fuel tank petcock now rests on the top of the left carb so the tank cant sit properly on the bike, any one here know a quicker fix than to fit a nipple and use a remote lock off. I was'nt expecting any problems with the carbs fitting the bike as they were ordered specefically for the Cb750, anyway if any one has had this experience i would appreciate any suggestions.

Which CB750? I have a set sitting in a box on my pool table awaiting the final fitment to my 75 CB750F.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Okay i am going to post this as a fix. My 750 is a 1975 model K5 and the problem was that the tank was not original to this bike as my original tank was creamed inside and had a number of surface scratches so i bought one in original colour and clean inside from ebay. I did notice the area where the petcock sits was somewhat indented, well the standard carbs have a lot of clearance but with the CR's the petcock was angled to the rear by about 1/4 inch causing it foul on the carb top. I removed the petcock and inserted a round bar and prized and straightened the base where the petcock fits. All fits nicely now but i do recomend using some silicone spray on the front tank mounts to get the tank to slide right up and makes fitting very much easier. I am going to put some fuel in and see if there are any leaks, once it remains dry all will be okay.  The only mods i was running is an unbaffled Kerker 4in1 and now the CR carbs, not so much for the added hp but more reliability, i could not keep the standard carbs going for any time as after awhile i always had a dead cylinder for at least the first 15mins of a ride which caused one chrome manifold to get discoloured. I am down in Jamaica and the only fuel available here for some time is the E10 ethanol mix, with the E10 the problems became worse. I just got some new wonder additive for E10 so i will add that to the fuel and see how every thing holds up.

Another thing to try if you need some more clearance. Instead of inserting the rear tab of the tank into the rubber hold down strap, just let it sit on top of the strap. When you close the seat it ain't going anywhere and it will sit just a skosh higher.

That's one of those "no brainers" that's only obvious AFTER someone explains it.  You ought to add that to the T&T list.
Take care,
