Carb needles and clip settings
« on: February 20, 2006, 02:10:57 PM »
Is there a "standard" factory setting for the carb needles for CB750's? I've just cleaned a set from a ' 73 parts bike and the clips were in the top most slot of the needles. According to FAQ for carbs this is the leanest setting. I don't think this is a good setting to start from.
Thanks,
Cliff.

There's a pointer in the Carb FAQ.

Thanks for the hand! I saw that there but didn't want to show my ignorance (again).
Am I safe in assuming then "JN" means jet needle and if it specifies "3" for example, that means the 3'rd notch down from the top off the needle?

Thanks!  Now I'll have to contact the po to see why he had them so high and check the jet sizes to see what they are all about. Good spec chart. It'll come in very handy.

Interesting.  Another site has ripped me off.  The original table was written by me, over seven years ago.  Hondachopper didn't even bother to change the font!  They forgot to hyperlink the carb types also.  What good is a table showing the carb types if no one can tell what the numbers mean?  Of course they didn't use them, that would require stealing another page!  Grrr!

Thanks Hondaman for the kind words.  It isn't just one site either.  All of the following sites have my material.  (I did get one of them to remove it.)  This is why I have started to change my site, which I have had for over 10 years now, to commercial interest.  That is, making money.  :-)  Sorry to vent here, or toot my own horn.  Just gets me is all.  www.motorcycleproject.com

Hey Mike! Thanks for posting again but my Explorer says the page is currently unavailable. Maybe the server is being serviced. I'll try again later and look forward to exploring it.

Hello Mike,
Perhaps you could explain a descrepancy in the chart?
The Cb500 K0-2 ought to have 627B carb setups.  All the Cb500s I ever seen had 627B carbs.  I have three sets of these from Cb500s.

The 022A carbs were found on the CB550 K0-2.  They are certainly on my 74 CB550 which I've owned since '75 with 1500 miles on the stocker.  Plus, I've found them on the 75 and 76 CB550Ks, also.

I suspect you may have copied the printing error in the Honda Manual supplement for the F model  p165  (which defies all the examples I've found for the CB550).  It also contradicts the specs for the CB500 found in on page 61, which, I believe is correct for the CB500 K0-2 and the 627B carbs in stock form.

Do you have other Honda documentation sources?

Just trying to get the correct information available.
Thanks,
Lloyd... (SOHC4 #11 Original Mail List)

Lloyd -- Thank you very much for the correction.  It is much appreciated. I used some experience, but mostly a number of publications, including and most frequently, the official Honda Specifications Handbook, of which I have a goodly collection for that era.  I will use your input and update the site accordingly.  Thanks!

Lloyd -- Yes, I am blessed to have amassed just a bit short of a complete dealer library for the period of the early fours.  Much of it I aquired while employed at Honda's U.S. headquarters in L.A. during the early 1980s.  :-)  Thanks again for the correction, and like you I would just like to be correct.
