Thoughts on what?  You're going to have to disconnect the wires to swap the handlebars.  As long as the wires are still stock, as in the correct colors, just match them back up when reinstalling.

Headlight bucket wires are like carbs in that it looks a lot more complicated than it ends up being once you get into it.

Every CB that I have had to switch bars on I have always notched the control housing out and just ran them on the outside. So next time you dont have to disconnect the rats if you want to switch bars.

Kind of redundant if the wires are already color-coded, isn't it?  Though definitely a good idea if they've been messed with and are no longer the correct colors.

Some greens and blacks and light blues can go multiple places if memory serves and don't underestimate the idiot factor - I'm reasonably sure I'm not the only idiot here on the board  ::).

Numbered stickers just make the process mechanical and they cost like $5.00. Spend more than 10 minutes futzing around and it pays for itself.

As long as the connections and wires are still stock, the male-to-female connectors make it very difficult to reconnect things incorrectly, but you bring up a good point in that there is the idiot factor to contend with, and that is definitely a factor that I am no stranger to. ;D

This is definitely a situation where a back-up plan can't hurt and could easily help.
