530 - 630 chain swap fitment, solved!
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:51:49 AM »
I have a 77K in the shop, it needs a chain and sprockets needs to be finished soon and cheap. I have a good k4 chain and sprockets from another bike. After searching I have found a lot of opinion and argument. All I need to know is, will the smaller chain and sprockets bolt on or do I need to change out other parts also? Alignment OK?

No, Don they don't fit and if you search chain conversion and not chain swap you will find a wealth of information.

OK now that I know the parts don't fit, I need a front adapter sprocket. Where is the best place to get one? Is there a consensus on whether the rear wheel neds to be shimmed?

Bad day Don? Actually, a 630 front sprocket off a K0-K6 will go straight onto your output shaft (same spline) but will move laterally, which might be a good thing, (self aligning?) or you could probably shim it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

No, just my wierd humor ;D  Really? The splines on the 77 look a lot different, I was hoping to just do a quick swap and move this project to it's intended owner. It's not done yet and I have 2 weekends of racing and it's only 3 building days to this dudes intended christmas.

OK I finally figured it out, the front sprocket I got that was supposed to be from a K4 is really from a twin cam honda, 79 or 82! No wonder it didn't fit. Thanks for getting me enough info to know it should work. Solved.
