CB550K Petcock questions
« on: February 16, 2011, 02:24:08 PM »
I have read through several threads here pointing out the differences between the various petcocks on the 550's. My bike is a 1976 CB550K. Whether or not this tank is the original tank, I have no clue. It has the single, 3/4" bung (outer diameter, thread edge to thread edge). Apparently there is the 3/4" bung, a 5/8" bung, and the oval one. I am still unclear on which petcock to get. These are the two part numbers I keep coming across:

16950-393-015
16950 374 671

I can't seem to figure out which one fits the 3/4" bung (if either of them even do). The 393-015 has a single outlet coming off to the side and the 374-671 has dual outlets coming out of the bottom. Other then that they seem to be the same.

1. What is the correct part number for the petcock that fits the 3/4" bung? If it's the 374-671 which seems to be impossible to get any more, what is an acceptable Honda equivelant or even aftermarket universal one for that matter.

2. What are the pros/cons of having a single outlet instead of the dual. With a dual you won't have to run a T to fit both carb inlets?

I have a lot of effort, time and money into this tank so I have to find something that works with it. At this point I don't really mind what petcock I use or who makes it or anything like that, I just have to find something that works with the tank I have.

Thanks,

Seth

76 cb550K only came with one type of petcock. 16950-374-671 with dual drop outlets. near outlet feeds carbs 1&2 and the far outlet feeds 3&4. make sure your tank is K before dumping the ~$100 or so bucks on a tap. The other number is for the F supersport model which has the trap door fuel filler.

And yes. Awesome paint job!

The tail section is a Roc City Roadster Cafe (fiberglass). Then a custom seat pan and seat were made to fit the tail section.

I will be doing a build thread (look for The Mighty One) in a week or two once the bike is done. Thanks again for the compliments.

Great looking seat too! But, it'll cover far too much of that beautuful paint.

Just put the bike in the living room to admire (and place the seat on the floor next to it). You can always build something else to ride!

Seriously, what you've accomplished is absolutely first class. 'Can't wait to see your finished bike.

ps:
I have an old petcock to a 76 550F I could send you.
The reserve tube is broken OFF.

Thus, it is always on reserve, whether you have it on main OR reserve.
But I rode on it that way for 7 years, until I finally came up with a replacement!
I only ran out of gas a couple times :)

It is a -671, off a stock 550F, which, according to the Fiche, will fit your K tank. It is dual-outlet.

let me know.
