400f connoisseur needed

I know that the 400f model changed only slightly between 75 and 77, one of the changes being the position of the foot pegs and controls. Does anyone know how much further back the foot position was on a 75 over a 77? I was thinking of trying to collect all of the pieces to change my 77's foot position to the position of a 75' instead of buying and adapting rearsets. Will all of the parts on a 75' bolt directly onto my 77' or will i need to adapt them?

The footpeg position for the rider did not change between the 75 and 77, I think you are confusing the footpegs for the passenger which were mounted on the swinging arm on the 75 but  were mounted on tubular brackets on the later models.

I know they changed in the U.S., but maybe not in the U.K. My bike doesn't have any shift linkage system and the brake arm is much longer than earlier years.

thats correct, the f2 model in the us had non rear set pegs and taller bars.

You will need a gear lever with all the linkage, rear brake lever and the 2 front footrest holders. The fiche also shows that the rear brake pivot and brake rod is different. I think you don't have to change it, it's just a revision. I think the height is the same, just futher back about 50mm. it's a quick job to change. there are a few more little things that differ from the early models longer head studs, tank, fuel tap. front fender, exhaust manifold and speedo.

i have both models, a 75 and 77.  The 75 and 76 are identical the 77 slightly different. These are US or in my case canadian models if that means anything.  I bought the 77 from the original owner and it differs from the 75.  higher bars and forward foot pegs and a different shifter and brake lever.  i changed the 77 into a 75 with parts i bough on e-bay.  Everything fits.

If you mount a '75-'76 brake pedal on the '77 pedal shaft, you'll need to drill a new hole for the brake rod, closer to the centerline of the shaft pivot, since you need to gain back the "mechanical advantage" lost from the switch to the short pedal.  Do a close visual comparison between the two pedal shaft designs and you'll see what I'm getting at.
