K5 CB 750 instruments chrome cowls
« on: March 02, 2006, 09:26:34 PM »
Hi I have just been able to obtain a pair of slightly rusty instrument cowls (2)

How much are new ones (Pair)  in USA?

I have just paid an arm and two legs for them to be chromed.
Mad?

G'Day Dave, no you're not mad, I had two sets done in December, worked out at about 40 bucks a set, and they look great! You can't buy 'em new anymore (well I've got a NOS pair in a box, and another new old set on my F2 but I was lucky to find 'em) but they weren't too expensive, I paid about 40 bucks for them too, which is probably a little more then they cost new back in the day. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Just curious, are we talking about the dish-like chrome backing plates at the rear of the instruments or the retaining rings that mount the instruments??
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Hi Bob.
Just getting excited over the pair chrome rear covers on both of the tacho and speedo.
NOT the early rings.
Bloke here in Newcastle NSW Australia is going to charge me A$80 for rechroming the pair!! Ouch I will get a 100% job though for a lot of loot??

Sorry Dave, I was talking about the gauge bezels at the other end of the gauges. If you're gonna pay 80 bucks to do those "dishes", you've got rocks in your head!

Preston Plate (possibly Australia's best plater) would only charge half of that, for at least the same quality! Are yours really bad? I've got a box of CB750 gauges, some of the backing plates are bad, but some are pretty good! Cheers, Terry.
