I have an XL250 '79...I think these bikes get driven in wet conditions alot and then corrosions like to keep bits together more than they should...what have you tried so far?...have you sprayed with seafoam or some other lubricant/rust dissolver?

Doesnt the axle screw into one side of the fork leg on that bike?
MIght want to get a heat gun or propane torch and some penetrating fluid and warm it up to expand the aluminum then try getting it out..
just my 2 cents worth..

Generally, if you have a torch, some penetrating lube, a 10mm wrench, an impact driver, and a big ass rubber mallet, you can get anything apart on these old bikes. If none of the above works, try to make friends with a guy with a bigger hammer.  :D

thanks ! I feel like it might screw in, since there is a hex head on the opposite side. I soaked in in wd40. Might have to locate a torch!

If there is a hex nut it should screw in or out, my recollection of those models is that the axle is like a long bolt...Larry

You can get torches at home depot for like $30 that run on a little propane tank...relatively easy to use for those of us with little experience lighting things on fire :P
