NOS Chain. Good idea?
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:39:45 AM »
I have got a line on a NOS o-ring chain for my 750A. It's been sitting at my local dealer since 78. Now, I was wondering if there is anything wrong with buying a 30+ year old o-ring chain.

If it has been sitting in a sealed package, greased when it went it in it should be ok.  But why a 630 chain?  If you are restoring a bike to original specs then ok but i converted to a lighter 520 with no problems.

For a 750a you should be fine. Chains back then were not as strong hence why the 630 was used. The A has less power so that helps.
A smaller chain from today would still be better though. Better strength and lighter.

My sprockets are still in great shape, so this method is actually cheaper than buying a conversion. And it is nice to keep it original.
