cylinder head cover tap

i need to tap 5 of the 6mm  holes in the cylinder head cover 1/4-20 is what iam going with
sinve they are striped so question do i have to remove the cylinder head cover? and also the availability of the lenghths arent there. theres 2" -1 3/4 -1 1/2 for 50mm-45 and 40mm
you guys thing they are long enough?

actually it looks there longer maybe with the washer it will fit

Tap the stripped 6mm with 1/4-28; it's a better fit than 1/4-20. After running the tap all the way in, switch to a "bottoming" tap, to take full advantage of the depth of the threads in the hole. Tip: to make a bottoming tap out of a standard tap, grind the end down until there are only one or two tapered threads on the end.
