This is the the most accurate quote I've heard.  It wraps up exactly how I feel about messing with these things.  I spend WAY more time worrying about it than actually doing it, once I get over the fear!

Keep up the great work.  This is going to be one hell of a bike, and more importantly, with the hand-made custom stuff, it will be yours, and totally unique.

Thanks guys, it's been very fun so far.  It's giving me tons of ideas and experience for the next build.  I've got a couple projects that I need to get done before starting another (54' Jeep, 87" Suzuki Samurai, and restoring some old woodworking machines)  But as of now, im looking to end up with a CX500 or I might go for somthing newer.  I know for sure that I'm going get somthing that the engine works when I buy it. 

Next on the list for me is get these rearsets made and get the rear fender mounting figured out so that I can get the frame painted and the engine back in. After thats done I feel as if progress will go faster.  I at least want to ride it up my drive way once this summer!

Just ordered a taillight of ebay, not sure what its for, i think some hot rod light.  It's real small, 1.5 inch diameter and 2 inches long, chrome with a little visor.  And I've go my eye on some headlights on ebay.  Also starting to game plan some sort of under the seat electrical tray.

Check the " bike for sale" section, there is a sticky for a member who sells brake lines.

He will make them for the right length, if you mention which bike/bars.
Im looking to get steel braided brake lines, and gas and clutch cables with braided housing.  I'm running clubman bars, so i dont have stock length.  What do i do and where do I get them?

It's tiny, only 1.5 inch diameter.  and about 2-3 inches long.  Looks good posed on the fender.  Just won this Harley light also, $25.  It's diameter is about 5.25 inches and about 4 inches long, i think.  It's rusty but I'm going to clean it up.

Got some progress going yesterday and today.  Got my headlight for one, but that will be a post on it's own when I make the mounting bracket.  But for now its, nuts and bolts, and rear fender.  I went to my local fastener store and got replacement hardware for tons of stuff, all Stainless Allen head.  Most of them were different engine mounting bolts, oil pan, triple clamp, shoulder bolts for upper shock mounts, etc.  Got em all loosely in, they look great. 

Today I did some fender work, I cut it down and removed the wire channel and the other metal tack welded to the fender.  Tapped my frame in the underside of the hoop to mount the fender in the rear.  Made an aluminum bracket to mount fender toward the front.  It mounts to the frame brace under the seat, I could have used a nut but I tapped the frame instead, I'm on a tapping kick.  Also got the taillight posed to see what it looks like.  I like it!  OK, well... I guess that will do for now.  Next up is mounting the headlight, it's an old Harley light.  5ish inches in DIA.

Got back on the rear-sets tonight, worked on the break side.  I used 1/4 aluminum plate, made a cardboard template to go by.  It might be a bit short, it feels good but not sure what the leverage will be like.  Turned the brake lever peg out of the same stock the pegs are made from.  It's 5/8" diameter.  I plan on making the shift lever about 2" longer to make from for shifting up.  The black stuff is hockey stick tape, I thought it might look good, I like it.  Not sure how long it will stay on.  I don't have a knurling bar so I had to do something for traction, which it does a good job. 

Im going to get some heim joints and treaded rod to make linkage rods and get it all hooked up soon.  Gonna modify the stock shift and brake levers to work with it all. 

get back to yall with more pics once I get em done.

are you going to run the new lever back to the drum directly? or run it forward to the original linkage?

I'm planing on going forward to the original and then back to the drum.  Doing it the other way there's more interference by the swing arm and drum stabilizer bar.  It also seems to look a little better my way.  The benefit of direct connection is less linkage which meas less friction.   We'll see.

Just spent a couple hours getting some progress going on the rearsets.  I got the brake side well on it's way.  I ordered some 1/4 Female RH Rod ends, hiem joints or whatever they are.  Got four of em, $2.50 each, Free shipping.  The brake pedal and foot pegs are in previous posts where i made those.  As for the forward part of the linkage, I took a stock brake pedal and cut of the clamp part and belted it smooth.  Then made and tacked welded on a 3/16 tab for the connecting rod to attach to.  I ended up taping 1/4-20 threads on the front tab and on the rear, I'm gonna lock tight em on in the end with S.S. Allen Bolts.  I was originally going to use threaded rod with a tube over it for the linkage rod, but I ended up making on that's pretty cool.  I got two, 8" long by 1/2" S.S. bolts, and turned EPA down on the lathe, about 5/16ish" in the middle with 1/4-28 threads on either end.  The S.S. was way harder than the aluminum to turn.  I blasted the bolts with the torch to try to anneal them a little.  I think it worked a little.  It was very satisfying to fit it all together and have it work.  I did over look how I was going to get the pedal to return back to it's resting position, I ended up relocating the brake pedal spring to the inside of the frame, plus I reshaped and cut it, out of site and works perfect.  I've got a few finishing touches but for the most part the brake side is done.  So now for the shifter side!

Hey, Sure I'll get some pics soon.
But in the mean time, all I did was relocate it onto the other side of the bracket that holds the spindle that the pedal attaches too.  Then I bent it so that it catches on the linkage and under the frame so that it returns it to the right position.  Works great and keeps it out of site.

I need some help.  I have the engine in the fram, no wire or electrics of any sort conected to it.  What is the bare minimum that I need to test the engine.  I havnt heard it run yet, so I wanna test her out.  I wanna try it tonight so let me know!

Don't know if you found braided cables yet but did this for a bicycle build stripped out some coax cable and covered the cable sheath. Also you can get automotive stainless steel braid. Oh this is a really nice build. I'm just starting on a 73 CB500 4.
