My awesome find!!
« on: October 14, 2010, 10:44:35 AM »
I thought i would post my great find i had about a couple months ago.

1969 Honda Dream 305cc

This had been sitting in the Sloan Museum for the last few years after the owner restored it.  I just happened onto it on craigs list. I had been looking around for something vintage from the 60's and found this baby.  It came with the original manual which had been written in from 1976 to 1985 the different trips and odometer. Then hadnt been ridden since.  It had three electrical problems.  One was the high beam (dry solder), two was the rear tail light (bad ground) and three was the starter switch was broke.  Since then i have fixed everything, new oil, rebuilt petcock, plugs, and timing. Runs like a champ.  Even found some original Buco's for it (still restoring them).
Other than that it was mint. yes i know he painted part of the jug like the "baby dream" but this is a 305.
And yes it rides and runs like a "Dream"  Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I do.

yes they are,  even the rivet head are engraved with "Buco"

but they need a new gelcoat.  i started sandblasting the hinges and looking for light assemblies for the 2 lights each.

Hey Tango911....did you bring that bike to the vintage night at the Steer-In a couple of months ago?  I seem to remember someone bringing a Dream.

754, what makes you think its not newer than 66?  Title says 69, pretty sure the vin matches up to that year.

it handles great, very nimble, kind of a smaller bike.  Could def use a 5th gear though.

Ha ha, that brings back memories, I bought a blue one in similar condition for 25 bucks in 1976, it was an unwanted trade-in and the Suzuki dealer was glad to see it go.

I took it home and took the hacksaw to it, cut the mufflers off, junked the front fender and cut the rear one short, turned the handlebars upside down (no, they weren't "pullbacks" like that one is wearing) and rode it flat out around the old grass racetrack @ 70 MPH until the engine siezed, and it "highsided" and threw me across the wet grass for a few hundred yards.

I never thought they were much of a bike, but that black one sure is pretty! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I would agree with 754, Honda stopped building them about 1965/6, they would probably sit in some dealers showrooms way beyond this time to be bought and then titled.
Fantastic looking bike, if only I could find a CB72/77 in my price range :)

no one on the honda 305 forums has mentioned anything about this one not being what it says it is.  id be interested in knowing for sure what year it is if you think it wasnt made in 69.

the only info i found was that production stopped in around 67, but for the super hawk.

Most certainly can be a 1969.

thanks Twotired.   all i new is the title said 1969 but i hadnt checked the numbers.  Ill still be doing that.  either way its my most fun bike to look at,  it does ride great but with 4 gears its not great for more than a 30 min ride.  Ill leave that to my CB550.

In my late teens and early 20s, I had two consecutive 305 Superhawks; one in Illinois, and one in California.  They would go all day at 70MPH without complaint, and I could eek out 96mph if there was no headwind.

If it's the RPM you are worried about, don't.

As you guys know, the titled year is not necessarily the manufactured year.

In the year 1968. You walked into a Honda shop, new bikes were neatly in rows, on the showroom floor..
The flagsip of the line was the DOHC 450, and newly introduced for 68 was the 350, in I belive the SuperSport Cb , and the CL model..

I find it a bit hard to swallow that they continued producing a single carb 305cc Dream, fot the N. American market.. now any unsild stock of 305s, in many states, were fair game to be titled as the year they were sold..

Look at the tail-light lens for an SAE date? The styling sure looks early to mid '60s. My '66 C200 had the same type of pressed frame and leading-link pressed forks, as well as the duck-tail fenders. To the best of my recollection, those were all gone by '69...
