estimated value?
« on: October 24, 2010, 07:39:41 PM »
I have a lead on a 75  550. Like new condition owned by a former Honda shop owner since new. 1 owner, stored professionally the last 20 years. Tank and carbs dry and clean, perfect original exhaust with extra new gauges, 3 spare stock mufflers and many extra parts he wanted when he closed the shop. What do you think?  I hear they are asking 2K. Not sure of the miles, but he was an older Gent and I'm thinking he didn't run it a lot. I don't want it for me but not above making a dollar to spend on my 750.
His former partner is handling the sale, I wish it was his old 750 for sale- Bad AZZ 1 litre, big cam, head done etc. i think it's been gone a while though.

If it's in great cond with all the spare parts, $2K sounds like a good price.

A 550 that hasn't run for 20 years for 2,000 dollars, and your willing to pay it 'cos you want to 'flip it'. Did I read that right ?. I guess I'm living on a different planet.... go ahead, bro and very best of luck  ;D.. no bad vibe intended ... just shock :o :o

Unless you were to part it out you might get stung paying 2k, sure the parts will get you the money back but do we really need another classic becoming a "parts" bike? :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Thanks, That's why I asked. I don't know much about what they sell for in like new condition and I heard this one is exceptional. Maybe I could do better on the price. I haven't talked to them yet.

Ouch...parting out a museum piece?  Damn near criminal...

Try to talk him down and get something you can recoup on sale and keep her together.

Buy it, polish it up, truck it to the west coast. You'll make bank.

Sold one to Norway 3 years ago for $3400.  Original paint, 7K original miles, I bought a 4-4 and installed it to finish out the originality.  Pics are on my site.  I don't see you going much wrong at 2K but the economy has truly changed and not for the better.

If you care about vintage bikes you'd never part one out in this good a condition. "It ain't fittin', it just ain't fittin'."

As to price, you may be disappointed if flipping is your intent. I'm sure you can make something on it, especially with the extra parts. What are those three spare pipes worth? The least expensive 341's for a 750 are about $200 each! On the forum, we always hear about the great deals, the barn finds, etc. We rarely here what people are paying day-in, day-out, just nothing to brag about.

Assuming it was properly stored-- as opposed to improperly stored as was the case with most old bikes-- I'd pay that price if as described with the extras.

3 spare stock mufflers

Do you mean 3 extra sets (4-into-4) or 3 of the 4-into-1s. My experience is only with 750s but NOS pipes always fetch a pretty penny it seems...

If that bike is as good as it sounds, I would pay $4000, spend $1000 freighting it to Australia, and be extremely happy.
I'm envious of your situation where so many good bikes are going for a song, and even then some quibble over the price. Restoring a bike to that quality, again if it is that good, would cost upwards of $6000 considering the cost of chrome, paint, NOS parts, and particularly freight which can more than double the cost of parts.
Spend the $2000, be happy, and ride out the economic crisis - you'll do better than leaving your money in the bank.

He didn't say, but I bet it's a K and has 3 of 4 of the 4-4 pipes.
