I have read all the posts (threads).  Please correct me if I am wrong...but is this how to do a compression test:
1. Warm engine
2. Choke off
3. Throttle wide
4. Plugs out
5. Screw in tester and push the starter
6. Read the guage
7. Move to the next one

 :P

That's the way I do it.

You push the starter until the needle of the gauge is not moving any further.
Obviously you want to have a good charged batterie for the test, to have enough juice for the four testing sessions  :)

On thing to add though: Kill switch is switched to OFF while testing :)

One more thing... turn the fuel tap off too, saves flooding the motor.

I'd even drain the carb bowls, no need to suck any fuel in that won't get burned-off.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
