Center kickstand
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:07:16 AM »
So my center kickstand on my 75 cb550 k1 is rubbing on my chain when it is up and riding so when i ride it is very annoying so i don know what to do with it there was a metal tube that i found in my box of parts and it looked to fit the kickstand so i put it through the hole and reattached it but it did nothing to help it from not rubbing the chain. it doesn't look bent so i dont have any idea. So what do you guys think. thanks Matt ???

Do you have a non-stock exhaust? The stock exhaust had a rubber bumper on it for the centerstand to hit.

The 4 into 1 accessory exhaust pipes came with a bracket, a piece of strap steel in an "L" shape. The long vertical end of the L attached to the passenger peg mount (usually) or some similar point, and projected down to where the bottom of the L would hit the centerstand and keep it away from the chain. These brackets are often lost, or come loose when pipes are changed or removed and replaced later.

I just made my own center stand stop out of a piece of aluminum I had laying around. Cut, drill, file, polish. Now you have your very own centerstand stop.

where the through nut and bolt clamps the stands centre tube ,i fitted a thick large square washer that stops the stands height, you cant see it on the bike,i bent one ear to get the position i wanted, too easy.

Another option, of course of dubious nature, would be to remove the center stand. You would lose something like 5 pounds BUT if you get a flat, you lose the ability to lift the rear end for tire changes. Having a center makes oiling a chain easier but that is usually done at home so not as big a deal.

mavry, no pictures from me, but others have provided good ones and Dave500 has a good idea.

No riding for me, but it has been excellent weather.

Yeah, I like dave500's idea too. Might look at how easy that would be. Although my kickstand bracket looks like my muffler bracket on the other side. Symmetry is good too.

ive removed my centre stand just latley,if your doing service at home just slip it back together less the over centre spring, takes twenty seconds, just push the tube back in place and service away.
