Other SOHC engines/models
« on: March 14, 2006, 09:37:25 AM »
what other makes and models used a larger (500-900cc) SOHC engine besides the CB inline fours?  I have to imagine that after the k0 debut, manufacturers jumped allover that design?

just lookin for a bike to fix up that could resmble the 750 in design but not as popular/hard to come across as the cb fours

thanks, any suggestions?

The only other multi-cylinder SOHC bikes were the Benelli 500/4 and 900/6 and these are even more difficult to find (and were staright cribs of the Honda design anyway).  The other manufacturers gave up and went straight to DOHC for their fours.

Steve- I think you mean a 750/6. I wasn't aware Benelli made a 900 6. Of course there's lots of things I'm not aware of. ;)

They did make a 900.  The 750 had 6-6 pipes - lovely.  Then they cocked up the styling big time with the 900 which had more torque but no more power and was actually slower.

I love Benelli 750 Seis. Hope to get one someday. I missed so many chances earlier because I was buying too many Hondas locally.
Honda did have a limited production CB950 (bored out CB750) by Japauto with fairing (similar to the one fitted on the CB750 prototype) for European market but I haven't seen one in original color. They even made a plastic model of that, along with the original CB750.
1969 Honda CB750, two 1970 CB750, two 1972 CB750K2, 1971 CB500, 1975 CB550, 1976 CB400F, 1968 CL450, 1973 CL450, 1974 CB450, 1970 1/2 SL350K1, 1971 SL350K1, 1972 SL350K2, 1972 CL350, 1972 CB350, 1983 CB1000C, 1976 Kawasaki KZ900A4, 1976 KH500A8, 1979 KZ400B, 1983 ZN1300, and so on and so on...
