Fuel tank curiosity
« on: March 15, 2006, 09:49:38 AM »
The more I look at the tank on my '76 550f, the more I want to find something different! I like the look of the Mustang tanks at Cycle Exchange, and I even like the look of the newer Yamaha cruisers or HD fat boys, something low profile and rounded, not boxy or traditional HD. What are the issues with mounting a fuel tank? Can other brand tanks be made to fit? Has anyone else done this sort of thing? I don't really care about seat clearance issues between the seat and tank...it's just the actual secure mounting that I'm wondering about.

Any tank can be made to fit on ANY bike, it just comes down to alittle fabrication.
If you look in the Drag Specialties, or Custom Chrome V-Twin catalogues, they sell universal
tank mounting kits, to adapt certain year HD tanks to bikes. Welding will be required, but not much.

So to answer your question , it i possibile....
