What a list of planned improvements!  This is going to be SCHWEEET!  What's the process to remove and reinstall a longer steering stem?  Is it a press fit, or do you weld it in?

As for project names, I'll throw in Switchblade and Carnage.

THANKS ALOT CHRIS!!!! maybe i can swindle one of the guys at the PRI show to make me one on the lathe!

Theofam, The process for the 954RR stem is press fit. The stock Honda stem is a welded in stem. I could use the original Honda but I am selling the triples that I have....

RR, as stated, I am selling off the triples that I have. I could use the stock Honda stem and make a press fit sleeve to go into the 954RR triples but I think I might just go with an entire new stem to feel confident with it. a lot rides on that stem not failing on me. i guess its just a piece of mind.

That I have noticed, but I've been finding myself wanting to build some sort of horrible mix between a cafe, fighter and cruiser (bad knees, y'know) and this seemed like a great place to read up as I love me some older CB 4s. I mostly only read the Cafe section of CF.com nowadays anywho.

mygun, I would love to do a meet of some sort. I have been trying to get all the SOHC4 guys from north florida together but nothing has ever come through...

I have been noticing more and more honda 4's running around gainesville as well. but they are not on the forums and I am having difficulty trying to hunt them down.

Sub'd!  This is almost the exact build I have been planning for myself.  You're going a little beyond me on the frame bit but the rest is dead on.  I await with baited breath.

So I gotta ask the dumb questions. Haha.

What made you decide to use those specific parts to modernize the bike a bit? Is it because they are known to fit the best with minimal work? I'd love to do the same to my 750K but I wouldn't have had a clue as what parts would work or not.

Thanks. I too will be watching as well as learning.
Cafe Racing is mainly a matter of taste. It is an atavistic mentality, a peculiar mix of low style, high speed, pure dumbness, and overweening commitment to the Cafe Life and all its dangerous pleasures. I am a Cafe Racer myself, on some days - and it is one of my finest addictions. ~H. S. Thompson~

JAG, The parts that were chosen were chosen due to measurements and requirements that I saw would be needed in order to due the job that I needed. It really comes down to looking into the critical measurements that make a part work and seeing how close they are to your original part. you then have to decide if they are A) direct swap or B) close enough that you can make them work without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

Ha ha, if the goal is minimal work, items like custom frame and swinger don't usually make the list. :)

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

he asked about the parts that i chose to USE... not the parts i chose to BUILD lol... but you are right... it really comes down to finding what you WANT to use and figuring out how to make it work....

I went to the PRI show on Saturday and picked up some info on some stuff i will need in the future. I also picked up a GoPro HD hero for $175.... it was a steal if you ask me....

Anyone on here know of anyone that does really good machine work that would be willing to turn up a new steering stem for me?

Obviously I would need to have confidence in the new part as my life rides on it as will the motorcycle that I am building....

Stuart Machine. It's across the new HD on 441. Not in the 84 Lumber side but on the other side of where The Rancher used to be, back in that industrial park :)

Ya.... they are high & really don't like to work much :( I think they have several contract jobs & anything over that is like why bother mess with it... Doug kept at him to do the front braces & center console parts. Turned out good though.
Maybe santa can bring you a lathe... :)
