A first post and advice solicitation!
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:49:58 AM »
Guys, been lurking for a while, decided to join the discussion.

I picked up a 76 CB750 that has been for lack of a better word stripped of everything that didn't make it go or stop.  I thought about a restoration or a cafe but that just isn't the kind of bike I'm looking for right now.

Right now it has a Harley sportster tank and I guess the best description for the look is quasi bobber.  It's a look I really like, it just looks simple with no badges or anything distracting.

My problem has to do with where the left side cover should be.  I'd like to buy or make a cover that kind of mimics the look of the oil tank on the other side and paint both of em' to match the tank and rear fender.  Can anyone point me in a direction to solve my little problem?  My creative side is a little bogged down right now I guess.

David silver spares has the ones that came with the bike.I guess you could start with that then mod it.

As long as the previous owner did not cut away the 3 mounting tabs for the side covers you should be OK. The side covers that fit that bike would be the 1972 - 1976 and can be found on eBay too. There is also a "wanted" area on this board where you could post your need. You will see the guys here help each other out a lot and sell their extra parts for cheap to the members. Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good info if you search the site a bit. You can even download a manual for your 76 here.

I've seen this done on a number of bikes. not bad imo.

Why don't you just clean up the triangle entirely?
get one of these and hide the rest of the electrics elsewhere

I kind of like the idea of cleaning up that area, I'll have to look and see if there are some tabs on that side to mount something to.

May explore the idea of a metal plate as well.

Having a little stripped down bike is pretty cool actually, I like it!
