I have one of those 1100 twins as well as a couple of other Beemers. I have had a Beemer twin tranny go once on me at speed. As deaf as I am, I heard the bearing whine plenty loud enough, pulled in the clutch and slowed before the output shaft bushing self destructed.
IMHO, BMW transmissions are not the company's strong point.
Those photos are painful to look at.
