what years did honda make 650 cc sohc and what were the models. also did they make a 650 in dohc. just a curiosity question so any info on this topic will be useful. thanks.

I know the Nighthawk 650 was a DOHC. I don't know about the SOHC, though.

I know The 83, and after, nighthawk was a dohc.
My 82 cb650sc was still a sohc model
I believe you could get a plain cb650 sohc, or a custom as
far back as the 78 model, but not sure, I would need
help on that info....

I understand some markets kept the sohc untill 84 as the luxury custom. Looks just like the 82 nitehawk. 79 was the first year 1 model only in US.

so for the us market, if I follow the sohc forum 650 timeline I should be fine then?

So if you buy a bike for 1 grand and rebuild the carbs 3 times what does make you?

SOHC CB650's went from 79 to 82, 80 through 82 had the "Custom" model option, this may or may not have included depending on the year: Comstars or spoked wheels and 4 into 4 exhaust instead of 4 into 2. From 79 to 82, there were a few more changes, the handlebars slowly got wider. The tappet covers had "CB650" on them for the 79 model but not for the rest that I know of.

Don't forget the venerable '82 CB650SC.

It was the only year they made it in SOHC format. I guess that makes my bike rare. Unforutunately it's still only worth a couple hundred bucks.

It had comstars with dual disc front brakes and a slightly different gear ratios, head and carbs. 118 mains and 80 main air jets instead of 120 mains and 100 main air jets.

well I learned another thing from this site. I probably never want to go out drinking with duster or dammitdan. If they have twisted thoughts like this when they are sober I can just imagine the trouble I would get into when they are under the influence. Oh ya you guys are sober? aren't you?

I would hope one the 3rd time he got it right. If not hes not afraid to work on it when it breaks down instead of calling a tow with the cell standing around in the brand new biker garb.

3rd time was the charm. Not much pushing, just frequent adjustments of the idle, but we're all better now. That penicillin really took care of the burning.
