Points procedure questions
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:22:21 AM »
78cb750k8 someone tried to break free the engine on my motorcycle by moving the large nut being held on by the 10mm nut on the points side of the engine.  won't say who it is.  they (I) snapped the keyed piece that the larger nut goes onto.  so i had to remove that part and replace it with another one.  so how can i be sure my points are on correctly?  this is my first time working with any of this stuff.  how do I (they) set the timing on them?  any do it yourself procedures with no special tools involved.  help! :)

So is the engine now free? If so, you could download the manual here http://www.mediafire.com/?wqzmehqvkzl
I'm sure all the info you need will be in there. I hope it fires up for Christmas for ya.  ;)

I just recently got through my first timing procedure.

Old man Honda has some good info on timing procedures.  Also, the FAQ section is chock full.  I followed that tothe letter - including Two-tired's explanation of how to get it right if you run out of room.

So satisfying once I was done!

If I'm understanding you correctly someone really stressed that shaft. If so, you might want to check to see if it got bent. If it did, and you find run out, it will affect how the points cam opens and closes the points.
