So butting in here;

I'm riding it into Arizona from NM and hoping to meet someone around Duncan (North of I-10).  THat's what's happening in here also right?

Then perhaps climbingaz could get "IT" to kslrr who is in the Vegas area who would then head into SoCal for the next handoff?!
The Grand Canyon idea I floated was just that, an idea, and not etched in stone. If ideas can be incorporated then so be it. If not then so be it. Whatever makes this work  ;)

How's this sounding to you MyCB750K6? You guys could hook up somewhere with kslrr then head up the coast however you'd want to do that.

Now we have to get "IT" to gregimotis where ever he is starting. Team SW Scottly, where are you? Your turn  ;)

If the hand-off is in Oatman, a possible route might be from Phx (since that's where most of the AZ riders are) through Wickenburg to Parker, then north along the Colorado. A bonus would be a photo-op with "it" at London Bridge!

I received an email from Kayelynn Johnson of Dream Machines in Kingman, AZ today from the HondaChopper.com site. Thought you guys might be interested. Perhaps someone should make contact.

"Hello.
Just read your post on H.C.com and did a quick peek on the SOHC4. Team Az. Ca. Nev. thread.

It looked like your still working on routes. We are in the north west corner of AZ. in Kingman. with I-40 from Ca. and Hwy 93 from Las Vegas Nev. going through Kingman which has the longest section of historic Rt66 included (around 120 miles).

I would like to offer our services with a repair shop, rest stop, overnight stop etc.

Some of our choppers our in H.C.com and all are in the Denver's chopper thread in the jockeyjournal.com.. We would probably like to ride with also but it would be only a short distance as you would understand after seeing our bikes.lol.

If interested let me know soon so we could start making plans."

Thanks Greg, your link makes for a far better argument for Oatman than I possibly could. I haven't been through there in about 20 years, but I'd sure like to go there again.

I'll bet when you do, you'll notice it hasn't changed much, which is part of the area's appeal.

Happy New Years everyone!!!! Glad to see some of this plan coming together. I know we have plenty of time to fine tune it and I like the idea of taking pics of "IT" at different landmarks. We have to realize that it would be hard to hit them all but we should put our heads together (each team) and decide which ones would be best for that team's  leg of the run.
Me personally would be willing to head out to the coast (like maybe Monterey) and head north to San Fran.or I could head south and meet up in Yosemite.I am open to a long 2-3 days of riding and end up at Reno. Like already said though....I'd have to have a clear plan well in advance to commit myself to this project.
Anyways.......keep the suggestions coming and hopefully we will soon have established routes that can move "IT" to where it needs to be plus get in some fantastic riding..Later on.

Scottly clued me in on the ride.
Cross over from NM near Duncan AZ sounds like a plan...
I live in Sierra Vista which is closer to Duncan than I think any other rider planning on the trip is...
When is the planned window for the blast through AZ?

If my shoulder is healed and my bike's roadworthy I'd love to join the relay.
I broke my right shoulder in a fall in mid-Nov and I've been ordered to stay off the bikes until spring.
'78 Honda CX500 is streetable currently whereas the CA95, C70, and S90 are in storage in TN (long story).
The '75 CB550 is the current project. I've got front end work to do and some minor electrical and expect to have it streetable/street legal by March or maybe early April at the latest.
New Bridgestone hi-perf tires are on, so that expense is covered.
Just have a pair of front rotors to have drilled and calipers to rebuild. Have all the front end parts to go dual front disc except the braided lines to calipers. Have a pair of calipers and the caliper rebuild parts with phenolic pistons.
I do need a good right headlamp bracket, mine's pranged (P.O) and it has the turn signal mounted on the headlamp bracket so it is a 1 or 2 year only version...  I think it is the right and not the left that I need. Bought one replacement but was outbid on the other.

Hey David, you found the right place; sorry, I should have given directions. :-[
So far, the proposed time is late March/ early April. If the hand-off is in Duncan, I'm thinking of a route west on 70, through Globe, then somehow to Wickenburg. From there, we could go north on 93 to west of Kingman, or west to Parker, then follow the 95 north, if the hand-off to CA is to happen in Oatman.
Hope you are healed, and your bike is roadworthy by then!
Scott

Well I see i've been somewhat introduced. I,m sure as with most forumes I need to set up my profile but I thought I would do a quick post first. I visit here every once in a while mainly for tech. the reasion beeing the only parts on our choppers that are SOHC related are the engines and rear hubs. lol

I post allot on H C .com and have been able to post everything Denver's on the jockeyjournal.com on the :If you ever get the chance to see a Denver's bike: thread. It's a long one and is full of SOHC powered chops.

Got to get to work so more later.

Kay, welcome to the club! Not a lot of SOHC parts on my bike, either, except the most important: the engine! ;)

Thanks scottly.

This is a huge task to corrordinate something like this and keep everthing on time. I was involved with a local Air and Auto show on an active Airport that would shut down for a 10 hour window so I know all about -when things happen- One good thing is the dependability of what we're riding.

Me being a NuBe here I don't want to step over anybody or try to change the route so if you do decide to run through Kingman here is what we can offer.

Trucks with trailers ( so we won't need to use them)
A shop with a small supply of parts and access to other parts, tires, carb parts, welder and cable repair.

Restaurants and hotels near by.

A secured inside storage for an overnight stay.

If you decide to run further south then north through Parker, Lake Havasu to Oatman we can still supply support.

Think of this as a brainstorming session; all ideas are more than welcome!!
Speaking of tires, I could use a couple. Any chance of a discount for fellow SOHC members???

Speaking of tires. It's hard to beat the dealers on the web. We run old school Cheng Shins and Avons but we have a few M/C shops in the area that I would talk to to help out if needed .

Old School has proposed a schedule that would put the relay in eastern AZ around 4/28, and Kingman/Oatman around 5/1. This time frame might open up some routes through AZ, that I wouldn't consider a month earlier, like through Jerome.

Very good. that will make a busy couple of weeks for us here. I need to check the calender but I think that weekend is the Laughlin River Run (thousands of Harley's) May 7th is our annual RT66 Fun Run. We draw 700 to 900 cars and thousands of people from around the world. Rt 66 and Beale st are closed for five blocks for the day. Dream Machines is right in the middle facing both streets. They start in Seligman Sat. morning driving to Kingman for the show then leave Sun. morning to Oatman and on to Topock Az. for the award ceremonies.

Are we talking April/May of this year or '12?

Kay, I would hate to be stuck behind 700-900 cars on Rt 66!  :o

climbing, yes, we are talking this year. Are you still up for it?

kslrr, what we need is help getting "IT" from Kingman/Oatman to the Socal area.
