Stupid question but...
« on: March 21, 2006, 05:02:23 PM »
Would these bars fit on my 1981 CB750 C?

http://www.oldbikebarn.com/part.php?id=21&subcategory=Handle%20Bars&bike=&DisplayPerPage=20

Do I need to do any adjusting or buy any other parts to "fit" these on my bike?

Anything will fit with enough work. Your best bet is to measure your stock bars and go from there. Most likely you will need to lengthen your wiring regardless but a little turn or twist and you should clear your tank.

true dat. you'll just bolt on the bars (and they WILL fit in your bar clamp - 7/8") but whether you can re-use your grips, your cables, your brake line etc. w/out modifying/replacing with new ones is anybody's guess...

just go for it.

Try making some sort of mock-up, they give most of the dimensions.  And look closely at what's on your bike now.  I just changed back to stock from some low-rise bars.  I thought I had everything figured out and covered.  Then at the very, very end, I discovered the PO used a shorter upper brake line with the lower bars.  Luckily I had an old set of stock lines lying around or it would have been a wait while I worked the e-bay mojo.

Take your bars right now and flip 'em upside down (unless they're apehangers!) and you'll have a good idea of what you're in store for!

Same bars......but from a different supplier. Your cables and wiring will be a little long but they'll work.

Be careful with the steering lock restriction.  You'll probably need to adjust this to stop the bars from touching the tank on full lock.  That's an MOT (Inspection) failure here in the UK.

There is a thread somewhere about ways of doing this.

Who cares wether they will fit or not? If oldbikebarn is the seller, according to some feedback on this forum, rest assured you will never get them!!!  HAHAHAHAHA

for DOHC cb750s the controls require a small hole be drilled for a locating pin for the electrics.

you are still wasiting your time trying to cafe a Custom (cb750C) get a bike more suited to the cafe look.

and unless you butcher the switches you'll need a 10x12mm hole for wiring. no big deal
You can adjust the angle so they dont get too close to tank. Usually the clubman bars move far enough forward to give about 1.5" clearance on full lock, depending on the angle they are set at. (thats the number I used to work with, hav'nt seen MOT manual for about 10 yrs. so dont know if there are specific changes)

I still say you can club. The front is high but could be lowered for a better look.

not really as the fork tubes will hit the bar before you clear an inch.

I'm a big believer is to each his own and if the guy still wants to cafe a Custom it's his bike. However it really is a lot of work to modify a motorcycle, even one where there is an aftermarket for it like a SOHC cb750. However there is very little aftermarket for a DOHC cb750 custom, espically cafe parts and most of the body/cafe parts will have to be fabricated. For a newbie that is a daunting task. Concerning cb750C's I get the question about 10 times a week from guys who bought a cheap bike and now want to do something different with it. Some do great things, some give up.

I'm sure if he sticks with it it will probably come out to be a nice bike, but when it comes to the question of the easier path, the easier path is always unload the cb750C and get a SOHC 750.

And yes I can be a little blunt at times, but meet me in person and I am super helpful.

well the forks can be whacked off or shorter springs might be possible.

Its quite suprising that there isnt much info on the DOHC 4's. cafe style
Honda Britain bored the 750 to 998cc before the redesigned motorand it won a few things ( endurance racing, Bol'Dor, etc) course, Suzuki screwed things up by winning in 1980 and then a couple of years later brought out the GSX-R750 for street use.

Except that the 750 being talked about isn't a SOHC, I don't know why all the talking down of it
is going on. There are some parts that are interchangeable from the 900 and I think the 1000. So what if there's not a lot of aftermarket parts for it. That's kind of like saying"It's stupid to buy an build a Mopar because there's more stuff available for a Chevy". Now mind you, I like GM products and some Fords even though I'm primarily a Mopar Fanatic. That doesn't make me go around and badmouth the other brands. And I happen to own an 80' CB750K myself (and I got it for a very decent price) which doesn't mean that I'd turn down a chance to have a SOHC750 either. Everyone on this site has either had experiences to share, advice to offer and/or the need for info or opinions. Sometimes a little better choice of words would go a long way. Later on,  Bill :) ;) :D

very little of the 900 and 1000 customs will go on a acb750 custom. the 900 is a shaftie and I think the only thing that will work on the cb750 custom is the tank. I'm not sure anything from the 1000 fits the 750. The customs are not as interchangable as the SuperSports or the K bikes.

I own a couple of DOHC bikes, but the custom is really starting off behind the eight ball. It was a bike designed with style and comfort in mind over performance, even the K and the F handle better. To make a cafe racer out of it you have to undo what the factory did just to get it on par with its stablemates.
