I understand Larecords, timing may not work out.  It is what it is!  Maybe instead of a long ride, you could meet the relay for maybe half a day or even just a few kilometers.  That way you will get your name on the banner, so you'll be represented!

And congrats on the baby, by the way!

Here is what I envision. When Jason picks up GZ from Team New England, we'll have 14 days or less to get GZ to Detroit. It could be done in as little as 7, but this isn't a Pony Express reenactment. Nor is it a redo of the Iditarod, bad riding conditions are to be avoided!  Weekday riding will very likely be needed.

Jason is the Trail Boss for New Brunswick and Raynald will lead up Quebec. The handoff into Ontario is a little up in the air yet. There will prolly be a few leaders through ON that we need to nail down yet.

I will be at the Detroit handoff point and can get there pretty much any day of the week. I'll likely hold GZ in Kalamazoo, leaving on the following Tuesday or Wednesday and ride on consecutive days so as to arrive at Cycle-X on Saturday.

Please let me know if this plan needs adjustment to work for you. Not everyone will be 100% happy, but hopefully EVERYONE will have a GREAT time!!

P.S. An apology is in order to our New Foundland brothers and sisters. I recently found out that "Newfie" is a slur and could offend. Please forgive this ignorant Yank!

Time permitting, I'd like to meet up in the Toronto area or south Ontario (still think we need a Niagara Falls photo, just sayin....LOL) and ride at least to Windsor, I have a friend there. I want to visit a friend in Michigan, too, but I want at least a day layover in Windsor to visit. If that doesn't work for others, I could also catch back up at some point in Northern Michigan, that's where my other friend lives. I just rode out to Cleveland and did a leg to PA before heading home, good fun, great people. My friends mom was a Newfie, even wrote a book about growing up there, she referred to herself as a Newfie, so IDK if it's really derogatory, maybe OK if you are one, LOL. I'm semi retired/self employed, so I could probably do weekdays no problem.

Hey Tripps,

The latest map has a Niagara photo op on it!  We'd love to have ya along for as much as you care to ride!

Let me know if you can't get to the map, it should be on post #1.

Thanks, I had only found an old one that didn't look right. I will meet in NF then, I'm sure we will nail down a time when it gets closer, and plan on riding to Windsor, and most likely into Michigan. Working on getting a new rally flag, unfortunately the one I carried through Ohio/PA blew off between the last rest stop and home. :(

NF??  New Foundland??  Unless we get a major surge of riders in the Maritime Provences, we won't roll further East than Fredricton, New Brunswick.

Niagara Falls (or closer to Toronto if no one is coming that far South)

LOL!! OK, that makes much more sense!!

Timing wise, it looks like Team New England will get GZ to Jason (Operator) on 7/2.  Then ride the Eastern Canada routes over the next 2 weeks (or possibly 3 as there are some downstream events that may call for a delay).  In Michigan, the Kalamazoo will be a hold location.  Then we'll leave Kazoo on a Tuesday or Wednesday and ride consecutive days so as to reach Cycle-X in Norther Wisconsin on Saturday.

Hey Larecords,

It's looking pretty firm that Team New England (TNE) will be handing GZ over to Jason (Operator) on Saturday, July 2nd.  TNE is planning to hang at Jason's that night then ride back to the States on Sunday.

So, we now have a date and apparently no interest from anyone in NS, PEI or NF.  Next step will be for Jason and Reynold (Charlavoix) to agree on a time and date for the NB/QC handoff, then for Reynold and you to set up the details for the QC/ON handoff.

The next downstream even to catch will be the Michigan/Wisconsin handoff at Cycle-X.  That can be done on either July 16th or July 30th.  To make the 16th, Canada and Michigan would pretty much have to Pony Express GZ there, riding 200 to 300 miles a day, every day.  That isn't safe and wouldn't allow for the unexpected.  So I think we better target the July 30th date.

Two or even three weeks in Canada will allow Team Michigan to get GZ to Cycle-X on July 30th.  Let's get on it gents!  Let's finalize dates, locations and overnights!!

I only know my work schedule two weeks in advance.  So as the day gets closer I will know if I can ride along if you don't mind my GL1100, the CB550 is sleeping until I find a better exhaust.  I think my "couch rocket" can keep up with his little cousins.
Too bad it's not at the end of July, I might have been able to sneak you into a vintage bike rally outside of Moncton.

Bike is fine and I am ready. I am monitoring the thread. I expect to join the ride somewhere north of Toronto. I think that there was a stop suggested on the east side of Lake Simcoe? I know also that there is a stop over in Pickering. I'll probably head home that night and rejoin somewhere in Toronto and ride to at least Niagara Falls and maybe a bit further west.

Hey Cookindaddy & OldSchool

I'm back from vacation trying to monitor the threads too.  Seems like Team Canada has a reasonably firm handoff date to Operator on July 2.  Using OldSchool's previous tentative schedule, there would be a handoff from Straw & Larecords? to Cookin & me (& My78k?) around 6 days later up near Brechin. (approx July 8?)  Overnite at my place in Pickering (all welcome to stay here) then on to downtown TO (meet up with Wohali somewhere?, CN tower photo ops?).  I was planning on going as far as Niagara, if it's Saturday, might continue to Port Stanley for the next overnite, then head home.

Guess we gotta start deciding on a detailed route etc.  Everybody chip in!

Keep up the good work Gents!  Exact dates & exact routes are up to y'all!  I'll do what I can to coordinate at a high level.  I'm on the road at the moment in California, so my time is kinda tight. This ride is all about those with wheels on the road and as such, you need to make it what you want it to be!

So far, Operator is the Trail Boss in New Brunswick, Charlavoix in QC. From there we'll prolly need Bosses for each day. Who wants to take QC handoff to Algonquin?

Hi Dave!

Man!  I'm not sure there is time to add an NS loop.  I think there is one other NS rider that is interested.

There are a couple of options:
- meet up with Operator (Jason) in Fredricton, then ride to the boarder to meet the New England riders.  Ride back to Fredricton for the night, then head back to NS the next day.
- meet up with Jason in Fredricton after he gets back from the boarder run and take GZ back to NS for a day or two then back to Fredricton.
- Jason brings GZ to the NS boarder, but then the NS riders will need to get GZ to the QC border to meet up with Charlavoix

I'd like to add NS to the "Places Visited" map, but we're pretty close to launch at this point!

Jason, what works best for you?  You've been on this ride from the beginning and New Brunswick is your baby.

Quick update, Bessie's running a lot better, but the next week or two will be the acid test as I slowly coax her back up to highway speeds. (Babying her until the rings set...she's still smoking above 5k RPM.)

Assume I'm in for Pickering thru to Detroit unless I post again. Depending on dates I'll either ride out for dinner in Pickering, or meet up with everyone in Toronto instead.

My saddle bags ripped; anyone got a set they'd recommend that'd look swell on a '78 750F3? :)

Wohali, check out my bags  :-\  I like them and they tuck up quite nicely in front of the rear turn signals as well they are short enough that they clear the exhaust.  I picked them up at the Toronto bike show in the winter.
As far as the handoff for for QC to Ontario, like I said earlier I can pick up the slack from Ottawa to the Brechin area.
