k&n filter help
« on: March 23, 2006, 03:04:23 PM »
So, I am looking for the filter that is a whole unit for my 76 cb400f.  I believe it is this one.
http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/product~pf_id~3202022~dept_id~1184223.asp

However, it says non us models.  I can't even find it on the k&n site, so I am a little lost.  Also, what is a 400sf?  Sorry if that's a stupid question.  I assume that is super four, but I don't know.  Thanks.   :)
BTW, the only options I find elsewhere are the four pods, which I don't want unless I have to.

...Uni no luck...but crotchrocket may have stock -->> http://www.crotchrocket.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1976&fveh=2912

You can also get raw Uni foam and rebuild an old stock filter; yank out the paper & replace with foam.

Yeah, I was thinking of making my own anyway.  Probably cheaper too.

Brilliant!  Thanks for the thread guys.  I get so many great ideas just looking through these posts.

I have a damaged K&N auto filter that has plenty of material to insert in place of the paper stock on my 550F.  Need to tune the carbs anyway.

I swapped out an old stock paper filter with a new Uni drop-in on my 550K with no carb adjustments.

The 400SF is the 90's model 400 four, I don't think it sold in N.A. Fairly sweet bike too, 53HP and OK styling.
The only available K&N setup for the CB400F is the pods.

Well, I decided to try and fit some K&N filter in where the paper was in the original filter.  That glue is pretty darn tough.  Finally set the whole oil soaked thing on fire!!   :o  It burnt forever, and I totally smoked up the garage.  However, that glue gets really soft when on fire.  However, the whole unit falls apart, as it is all glued.  So, I am going to glue it all up with some kind of adhesive soon.  I had a filter from a CM400, round canister jobbie.  I am cutting it so that the rubber will be on one side to keep the filter together, and will glue the other side.  I'll try to get some pics of how it turns out and let you know.  Thanks for all the help fellas!  Now I'm gonna go enjoy my cigar while the Mrs. is away!   ;)
