74 cb750 brakes and shocks
« on: March 27, 2006, 07:12:39 AM »
ok, first things first, i have a 74 cb 750, and i put the front caliper on, but it is kinda tight w/o any fluid in it, is that normal? the pads look new, but i got it from a junk yard, so i dont know,....... the pads do rub on the rotor, when the mounting bolts are tight. is that normal?

next. i want to disect the rear shocks to clean them, and maybe shorten the spring. are there any fancy tricks to doing so?

thanks
mike

Caliper needs stripping out and cleaning, shocks need a spring compressor tool DO NOT cut the springs they need the length to hold the collets in, if you want softer suspension buy some aftermarket weaker springs

I am sure you caliper needs to be rebuilt. I betcha the pistion in there is ticking ,thus making your
brake pads rub as you said. Those damn brake pistions are big $$$.....

If you are looking to lower your bike, you are better off buying a set of "short-shocks" from somewhere.I would try the guys at Cycle-Recycle--->http://HTTP://WWW.CRC2ONLINECATALOG.COM
If you get into their "chopper"catalogue, they sell 11'' short shocks for around $80 bucks.
Allot easier and safer than altering yours...
