Not sure where to post this so I'll ask it here...
« on: January 27, 2011, 06:27:40 PM »
I'm looking at buying a small collection of bikes, but they are all worse for the wear and come with no titles. :-\  So, now to the big question...how would I go about getting them?? I live in Texas and it's pretty much like this from what I understand with my local tax assessor. Without a title and insurance I can't get it registered, without it registered and insurance I can't get inspected to be street legal :'(

I want to rebuild a few and ride them LEGALLY! the others will be parted out to help finance the builds.
There are 11 bikes total; six hondas, two yamahas, two kawis, and a suzuki.

thats who I've spoken with, they told me I needed titles.
I heard there was some state you could just take a pic and have a notarized bill of sale or something

Maine and Alabama I believe.  However, there are tag service places that can get you a title as long as you have a notarized, signed bill of sale, cost can run up to 400........ITS and Maine Title Service are two...Larry

I've done this, it's fairly simple, just need to do your homework.

hey Stevo, I just read that, and it sounds really easy!!! thank you so much!!!!!!  one question, at step three it says i have to get the bike inspected. so that pretty much means I have to have them rebuilt before I can even begin to start the title procedure.

There may be a way around that. You can tell them you intend to register it as a vintage bike which does not require an inspection.
Good Luck!

I think you should reread the bonded title procedure, it doesn't look like you will have a problem.  Here's a couple of key points, This: Although not required to be operational, it must be a complete vehicle...if a motorcycle, a frame and motor.; and this: Vehicle Identification Certificate (Form VI-30), completed by a Safety Inspection Station (if previously titled out-of-state)

So, if you have a frame and a motor, you should be able to get a title.  You would only need a VIN inspection if it was titled out of state before.

It looks like that is just a vin inspection though.  If it's not operable then you have to fill out form VTR-131.  That's the application for title only (won't be registered). So, you can get titles but you won't be able to get them registered until they are put together enough to pass inspection.

I think that would mean, you go the license branch (BMV) get a inspection form call the local police and have them look at the bike run the #'s and sign the form and return the form the license branch to apply for a title.

at least that what it means in Indiana
