Comstar Rim Rivets
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:31:03 PM »
Hi Guys,I have a couple of rivets that are loose on the rear Comstar of my 1977 CB750 F2 .Is there a way of tightening these up,I was thinking of a hydraulic press. I would appreciate if some of you experts out there can throw some light onto this as I'm sure this has happened to others before.
Thanks in advance,
Steve in AUS

are the rivet holes elongated?  what caused them to come loose.............pothole?  if holes are elongated I wouldnt use the rim anymore.

A bit dodgey using them again, you could try to press them flat again and see what the result was, if they don't work out get another set.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Hush,
I too have a poblem with comstarts on a 77 F2.  Is there a supplier where someone can ".....get another set"?  If not is there a replacement alternative?

only alternative I know of right off the bat is a set of wheels off a gs series suzuki....they are almost direct fit.  some finaggling with the front brakes to space em right.  you would have to have the rear caliper and mount for the rear if disc brake rear.  The rear drum brake is direct swap.

Thanks for the replys,
Holes don't appear to be elongated, there appears to be a small amount of movement up and down not sideways.I dont know if the PO had hit a pothole or not. The bike has very low K'S, did read somewhere where early Comstars had this problem. Does anyone have a real good rear Comstar that they may want to sell.Postage to Australia may be a problem but I could check this out
