GPS Enabled Helmet?
« on: February 13, 2011, 08:48:18 PM »
I found these goggles online and immediately wondered why this hasn't been applied to motorcycle helmets.  kind of a HUD?

Because it's mostly redundant I suppose and a vertical odometer and altimeter are not necessary.  Might be great for a skier.

I'm mostly interested in the speedometer concept. I guess they would have already made it if their was a demand.

Unless you're riding one of those OCC "choppers", your bike should already have a speedometer.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

The bike did, but then I started fidling around and modifying it. So now i have one of those CEV headlights and opted to have the tach instead of speedo.

Not really the same idea....but remember seeing somewhere (maybe here?) that someone had developed a helmet with a rearview mirror in it.  There was a series of mirrors within the top of the helmet that reflected what was going on behind onto a thin strip at the top of the face shield.  Now that's something that I'd like to have.

I had a chance to use the zeal goggles while skiing last month.  They're REALLY cool, but expensive!  $400+, and they can be somewhat distracting.  I'm all in favor of augmented reality (AR), but some activities I just want to enjoy by myself.  I wouldnt mind having a gps receiver in my Helmet or pack, so I can review my stats at the end of the day. Other than this, focus on the road and the sound of your engine!! :)
