CB400F Exhaust Options
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:41:36 PM »
Hello Forum -

I've currently got a period Kerker on my 400.  The bike is in great shape, and the pipe is a little ratty.  I tolerate it because I love the sound.  Unfortunately, the muffler keeps getting worse.  I've begun researching alternatives, but I'm struggling.

I'm aware of the Motad and the Marving.  They'd be OK, but I don't think they're particularly interesting for the price.

The MC-Again is beautiful.  While I'd be willing to pay their price, I'm completely turned off by a $500 unit that requires additional high-temp or powder coating.  That's a stretch.

I love the look of the stock sweeping header, but the stock pipe doesn't make the noises I like.  What I would like to know, is there an aftermarket muffler that I could use with this?

Ultimately, I'd really like to hear reader's opinions of their systems.  If there are photos, all the better!

Thanks!

Matt

Larry, how do you like that MAC?  They're very prevalent, but I can't say I've ever really looked at one or heard one in person.

Sounds good(sort of racy) but I actually prefer the quieter stock sound.  Quality is not as good as stock and the header design is no where near as stylish as stock.  But it is a suitable replacement considering the cost of a new stock system. 350 shipped is good.  ;) ;)  There are both black and chrome, I have the chrome.  If I were building a cafe I think I would go for the black. I'd send a photo but the bike is covered and winterized. I've only ridden one day this year, getting soft in my 60's ::)...Larry
