anyone out there know of a cycle mag speciaizing in our sohc bikes? seems most of the major publications are either sport bikes or harleys.

Every once in a while "Old Bike", "Motorcycle Classics" and there is a third I am forgetting does an article on a SOHC Honda.

If you read German, the Honda CB750 Four Club in Germany puts out a really nice magazine. Some kind soul has ensured that I get a copy every couple of months.

It is a very nicely done magazine with articles on club rides, tech articles, classifieds, and the like. All in glossy color. These guys sure spend the bucks to put this together.

The website is a bit basic and doesn't really compare to the magazine.

Somebody do need to make a dedicated "SOHC" motorcycle magazine. I get tired of looking at modern sportcycles and cruisers that look so much alike. Currently my favorite magazine is UK's "Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics". They need a state-side version for US customers. "Old Bike" tried but didn't cut it. Since I have publication experience, I considered producing the magazine titled "Retrocycles", focused on the "Nixon-years" of 1969-1973 models. But the market was too difficult to guage. I'd do it myself if there were guaranteed 10,000 buyers. I'd like to see Mr. Buzz Walneck produce them.

I'd buy it, I've even emailed Motorcyclist and Cycle about the possibility of an
occasional article on the SOHC4s and other old bikes because I felt that there would be
enough of a market that it would be worthwhile. Of course I haven't heard anything. I didn't
expect to but. I had to voice my opinion. I have a hard time believing that they'd have trouble
selling them.

my favourite is "Classic and motorcycle mechanics". It's edited in UK but leave the british bikes for other magazines, so they deal with japanese bikes almost exclusively. You find reader restorations, road tests, technical advice and they have a "project bike", whose restoration extend in several numbers, with plenty of photographs along the process. Very ilustrative in my opinion. I've run out of space to keep more magazines, but I keep cutting the interesting articles and throwing away the advertising.

When I lived in Nashville I used to read it for free at Barnes&Noble and Borders while I sipped a coffee and ate a Macadamia nut cookie. It was a cheap way to spend a saturday evening for a lonely man whose family is a thousand miles away.

You can also buy past issues on eBay. No matter how old they are; after all, they deal with bikes whose fabrication was discontinued a long time ago... I have bought several out of eBay, but most of them are in UK, so with the postage costs they end up costing almost the same than the cover price.

We do have a couple of places nearby thatt i could check for tha latest ones, come to think
of it. We have a Books-A-Million & a Hastings store, maybe they have it. I'll also check ebay for

Raul, oldbiker and anyone else who might be interested,

I went on line to Books A Million and Hastings trying to find the Classic and motorcycle
mechanics magazine. I found it at Books A Million, it's on their rack, retails for $ 7.50, their price
is $ 6.75 and member price is $ 6.07. Their main articles for April seem to be: A look at Suzuki's
GT500, part 2 of a Kawasaki Z1 rebuild and the Suzuki GS1000. I'm going to check it out today.

I use to buy them used on ebay. The price of a used magazine + postage is more expensive than the cover price(7 euro in Spain), but if you buy by the bulk is much cheaper. You can always sell them once you have read them, and keep the ones you are interested in. Individual issues will have a starting price of at least one dollar or a pound, but sometimes you can get a full year for 7 dollars or so. I've just bought 27 magazines, but the shipping price has ben 36 quid!!!. At the end, each magazine has costed me 3 quid including postage. That's fair enough.

Well, I went, I didn't see the magazine, the clerks were pretty busy, I didn't have much time
and so I left without asking about it. They should have had it according to their website and
anyway, I'll call Books A Million after while and find out what the story is. I did see books on the
classic British bikes with lots of photos and info on BSAs, Nortons, AJS, etc. but, no japanese bikes
at all. What a Bummer. I'm going to check ebay to see if they have any now.

Raul,can you clue me in to back issue that might deal mainly with CB77, CL72,CB400F, CB500K or
CB550Ks? Right now, I'd just like to see 1 of these bikes covered. I sure don't want them all

There are about other 30 issues covering the other three bikes you mention. Go to www.classicissues.com and check them out. By searching by "CB400" you can see the magazine cover and judge wether it would be of use or not. The rest, put a search on eBay and wait until that magazine pops up.

The August, 2005 issue of Classic Bike has a 12 page article on the 400/4. Classic Bike is a high quality Brit mag that looks at British and Japanese bikes mainly.

I often considered cancelling Cycle World and Motorcyclist magazines because I'm not really interested in most of their contents for this Baby-Boomer reader but they often include just enough articles on retrobikes (1960-1970 era) for me too keep on subscribing.

I too used to subscribe to those magazines. there also used to be one called "Cycle World" and I was getting it also. Like you, I got tired of seeing everything except what I was interested in.
I ended up giving them the boot. I used to buy Old Bike Journal( it went away), Indian motorcycle
magazine (it went away) and Walneck's but, I'm getting tired of that too. I get more out of this site than any thing else and all it costs me is some electricity to run the computer. Oh yes, and dirty looks
from the wife from being on line quite a bit from time to time. Later on, Bill
