NEW 2006 PROGRESS/BUILD PICS OF MY SCOOT------>
« on: April 01, 2006, 02:36:58 PM »
Hey ,

Had another girlfriend-free day today, so I figured I would spend some time with the CB.
For the first time I put the new "suede" tank on the bike, and am totally happy with how it looks.

My old K8 style tank is now for sale, see the link below----->
http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=8439.0

I know this is the tank that SHOULD of been on the bike, but it new to me, so I am excited. ;D
The "suede" paint, matches the industrial/simple look & feel of the bike to a T.
I am def. pumped about getting my front-end back from Dragman, and then pointing my attention to the
rear of the bike, with the 16'' HD wheel , extended swingarm , etc...

Only thing I need to do is re-mount the seat, to get rid of that gap in the pics, which shouldnt be an issue...

It's Getting There......

DUSTERDUDE--->
I am picking up a 2 1/2'' ext. swingarm from Dragman soon. I am not gonna mess with the rear of the bike untill I get the entire front-end finished, so the new arm won't be on for awhile.
 I actually want to ride this thing, not just throw money/work on it... ;D
nice work man!
Thanks sir. This bike keeps on looking better and better with the small things I am changing.
 ;D The new 21'' wheel will make a big difference in the overall look of the bike, and should be
back in my hands soon.

Very nice.  Is that Rattle can paint or did you have it sprayed professionally.  I really like it.

The paint is owner applied Dupli-Color low gloss engine enamel.
Lots of light coats, with a light sand in-between each of them.
The side covers have a can between the two of them, and I used 2-cans on the tank !
I figure the more paint, the more I can sand it without going into the primer  ;D
It's a clean machine - looking great ;D
Thanks for the kind words, it is getting there. I plan to remove as much as possibile to keep the
clean / industrial feel of the bike going full steam. I just gotta stay ontop of Dragman to get my front-end
back / finished.... ;D

I agree with ya 100%..
The new tank def. makes the bike look "older" which is always a good thing.
Got the new petcock, and mounted the tank, so that is done. Had to do alittle
creative mounting with the seat, but that is also complete.

Just waiting on my front-end to be finished up from Dragman, do the brake lines and RIDE the hell outta it....

Thanks for the kind words. The bike has done a 180 from the way it looked when I bought it, and still has along way to go..

As far as the Headerwrap, it wasn't a big deal at all to apply. I did it with the pipes On the bike, because I didn't want to mess with taking them off. It would have been ALLOT easier, and take less time if the pipes were indeed off the motorcycle.

Basically the "tape" is more of a "wrap". that holds in the heat. The more heat an exhaust can hold in, the better power the vechile/bike will make. Thats the theory, I did it just because my pipes looked like crap, and it goes along with the look I am going after. Basically you start wrapping the pipes as tight as you can, and use hose clamps to hold each end. I would wear somesort of gloves, because the stuff has fiberglass in it, and loves to get under your skin. Also helps to get the wrap wet, as you can pull it tighter, and when it dries is really tight !!!
ha-ha - nice avatar mr. Duplicolor...how many times have you answered that question now??? (twice for me, i think... :P ::))
<----- DUPLICOLOR F.Y.I ---->
This stuff does not like fuel ! I got the tank mounted on the bike last weekend, and took it for a breif ride to check for leaks. I stopped at the gas station to top off the tank , and dribbled alittle on the tank. I wouldn't say it "ate thru"  the paint, but it def. did something to it, as you can clearly see exactly where the fuel hit the tank.

A fix is just a quick spray away....

my HDepot doesn't carry Dupli-color so i bought the Rustoleum Satin Black - it looks really similar to what you have - i did the side covers, tank, headlight bucket and ears

ha-when i popped the ears off i decided to drain and re-furb the forks... my buddy walks over and cranks the triple tree around and said, "holy SH*T!" so i took the whole front apart - my bearing races were pitted and cracked! looks like a new slick front end coming my way before i get it back on the street - it was due.

i'm one step closer to meeting Hondaman's req. for a fine handling machine.

junkie out.

I have used the rustoleum satin in the past with great results. Just be careful when you are putting fuel in your tank  ::) I still need to paint my headlight bucket.

Hey Dizzle  ::) ;D
What you can do is have a good bodyshop spray reg automotive clear over your paint, then take some fine sandpaper/scotch-brite pad and scuff it up. This will give you a "flat clear", plus you can always buff it back to shinny again at will...
I am prob. gonna do this to my tank and sidecovers, and see how it works out...

you can also get flattening agent for the paint at local auto paint store but not a spray can solution.

Hey teal, that bike sure would look a lot better if it had a 16" HD wheel in the rear.

The 16'' rear will be going on shortly. It is ready to rock in the garage.
I need to focus on getting the front-end (which I will be picking up this weekend) finished up first..Should be pretty painless, just need to run brake lines, install new master, bleed brakes, etc...
I can't wait to see how that 21'' front wheel looks on my scoot  ;D

Liking the ride...a lot. I have just finished rebuilding the carbs on my cb500/4 and was going to put on the cone filters but i like the trumpets (v. stacks) your machine is sporting. Where did you get em? do they have a screen?

PONCH9---->
The stacks on the bike came with it when I bought it just under a year ago. They do indeed have screens that are built into them. I have seen them for sale at a few places around the net. If I come across a pair I will let you know...I actually think DRAGMAN has a set or three for sale, you might wana get ahold of him and see...

P.S That avitar of yours is too funny.. ;D

him early tomorrow (4/16/06). It looks kick ass, and I cant wait to put it on the bike.....
