Topic: Yamaha carb cleaner in Canada

I looking for the Yamaha carb cleaner that everyone raves about on here.  My local dealer doesn't know anything about it.  Anybody know if the Canadian part # is different?  If so do you know what it is?  Any help appreciated.

I phoned the Yamaha dealer in Richmond, B.C., Canada and the person I talked to on the phone had absolutely no idea what Yamaha carb cleaner was.  I think I even talked to two different people on the phone.  I thought this was strange as I have read on several websites that Yamaha carb cleaner is the be-all-and-end all of fuel additive carb cleaners.  Be interested to see if anyone knows a store in Canada that sells it..

I did a quick Google after the inititial post. Found a couple of references dating back a year or so suggesting Canada considers it too toxic.  If they think Yamaha Cleaner is too toxic, they should see the alternatives.

I couldn't find the Yamaha cleaner so I used the Honda Carb/Combustion Chamber Cleaner with great results. It's in a spray can so I stripped the jets and floats out of the carbs, filled the float bowls with the cleaner and soaked the bits in it - worked great. Then spraying the carb bodies with it brought them up nice too. A toothbrush helped in the cracks and crevices. Good stuff.

If I can't find the Yahama stuff I will try it.

 Here is the part #  ACC-CARBC-LE -Qt . It was originally in a black container but is now in a white container. Same great product.

My local Honda/Yamaha dealer in Winnipeg said they don't stock it, but could order it in if I really needed it.  They said they use the Yamaha combustion chamber cleaner for cleaning carbs.  I gave it a try, and it worked pretty good...it also weakened my nitrile gloves within 15 minutes.

Yamaha carb cleaner is not a fuel additive. Its a dunk them in and wash off cleaner. It is the best one made if you can get it. ( or buy and ultrasound cleaner- start around $4,000, so I've been told)

Acklands Grainger Canada sells KleenFlo carb and metal part cleaner, by the MSDS it's pretty much the same as Berrymans. It won't likely be in stock, but can be ordered and arrive in a few days to your local outlet.

And.. Acklands/Grainger has recently been selling to "industrial only", this hasn't been a big hassle but you might need to show a business card.

Wow, I could have sworn I read tha the Yamaha carb cleaner was a fuel additive.. thanks for letting me know.  I have been using SeaFoam as a fuel additive lately.  I wish I did a before/after look at the float bowls and carbs, as I only looked after running a few tanks with seafoam, they looked pretty clean, but may have just been like that..

I can remember what the Yamaha fuel additive is but the Kawasaki one is CARBOCLEAN ( yes, really, from the people who brought you muffler bearings, 1990's exhaust rubber bushing, no longer available, I checked)
Its designed for cruisers that dont get used very much, carbon builds up on intake valves, pistons, everywhere in fact. not designed to clean carbs but to clean carbon from engine ( the volatile components in fuel evaporate in intake, etc and leave behind all the addatives and gunge. seen intake valves with about 1/8" of crap built up on them, usually beats up the valve seats as well.

We use SEAFOAM for this very purpose in the automotive field. It's supposed to also help clean fuel injectors.

Yammy Cleaner instructions right off the bottle...

1. Drain stale fuel from float bowls and fuel lines and re-tighten drain screws.
2. Mix one part Yamaha Carburetor Cleaner to three parts gasoline.
3. Pour approximately 45cc of this mixture, per carburetor, into the fuel line. DO NOT PUT IN FUEL TANK.
4. Agitation of this mixture will improve cleaning.  To circulate mixture throughout the carburetors, rock the machine from side to side and briefly push the starter button to draw mixture into jets and passages.  Repeat as needed.
5. After one hour, drain mixture from carburetors, reinstall fuel line and allow fresh gasoline into float bowls.  If the engine won't start, or runs improperly, drain the gasoline from the float bowls.  Install fresh carburetor mixture, circulate throughout the carburetors and allow the mixture to stand overnight.

And the caps on step 3 were actually included in the instructions.
