Great info guys!! I thought there was a website where you could buy nearly any automotive color in an aerosol can ready to spray??  Also, sprayMax 2k clear over this and you should have a good quality paint job without having to buy all the paint equipment right??

But like anyone with any painting experience will tell you, it's all about the prep work!!

Colorite?
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

My paint supplier will fill aerosol cans with PPG product of your color choice. Maybe you can look into that at your local auto paint supplier. As Terry said, if your not doing metallic/candies or cleared over decals, save some money and go one stage. Colorite is very expensive, but convenient!

I think that people have the impression that a good paint job is just waving your hand around and spraying paint. Painting is about 10% of my work on any job. I love painting! Prepping/polishing sucks!

That is the one very rare exception of rattle-can paint I was talking about in the first response.  Some paint dealers can mix up a rattle can of anything on the shelf for you, it runs about $25 the last time I checked.  You can also get some of them to load up a rattle can of catalyzed paint - but if you buy one you've only got a couple of hours in which to spray it.  And those paints will hold up as well as any.

Ya I'd like a 1 stage paint if possible, and in a rattle can, so I guess I need to make sure to plan it all out at home first then get back to spray it!!  I'd just like it as "simple" as possible... For the tins and stuff, I really don't mind spraying a clear on top, but I'm still looking for what's available

O'reilly's Auto Parts mixes paint. At least in Arkansas. I spent months trying off-the-shelf rattle cans and searching for paint suppliers that stay open long enough for me to get off work. Happened across O'reilly's and was pretty surprised. They can mix about anything you want. I got a spray can of a custom red with gold pearl for $17 and he gave me the extra in a regular can for touch ups. The paint has help up great, but my prep work was terrible so it's not the best paint job.

I guess my point is O'reilly's gives you lots of option and is pretty convenient.

I have two product suggestions:
With this product you can spray any base coat paint with a professional finish.
http://www.preval.com/

This product provides a body shop quality 2K UV resistant clear.
http://www.spraymax.de/index.php?id=360&L=1

Anyone can paint body shop quality products with these two products in hand.

Do you have any examples of your work with these Darcy?  Thanks for the links!!

*edit* I've actually used those preval units before!! Very cool indeed!!  I had a local shop match a dash for my '02 blazer when I put in a bigger head unit and the color was perfect!!  No runs, great coverage in 1 coat (I put 2) and it looks factory fresh 2 years later!!

I don't actually have examples but I do have sales history and experieince in the market.
I have been supplying the body shop industry for nearly 20 years and DIY is a part of that experieince.

The Spray Max product is realtively new compared to the Preval product. It is the only spray can of clear that offers true 2K clear...  it is in fact urethane clear coat. It's downside is that once you activate the can, you have 24 hours to use it but this is offset by the quality of the clear you get. It also sprays like a professional paint gun too! They also offer a true 2K primer too!

Good luck, make sure you post some pics of the fisnished product and what you ended up using.
