Custom turn signals?
« on: March 01, 2011, 08:29:33 PM »
So here is the plan...I have been searching and searching for some cool turn signals for my 68 CB350 and decided I wanted something different. I happen to have an extra set of pistons from my CB500/4 project. DId a little research and found some circular led clusters that measure 1.84" which should fit nicely inside the piston bottom. Figure I will rig up some way to mount it and maybe fill the inside with closed cell expanding foam to keep water from coming through the oil holes and filling it up. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Would you need to find a different place to mount them? I dont even know how much a piston weighs. If you had the original fork ears that would probably support it if you drilled out most of the weight. You could probably find a lense that fit to cover the leds and make your own rubber gasket.

planning on mounting it through the ears into the headlight like the stock ones. The stock turns on these are pretty heavy so not too worried about the weight.

Mock it up and post a pic so we know what it looks like.

Ask and you shall receive, almost fit perfectly, had to grind off about 1/2mm from the stock light post for the piston to fit on. Thinking to get the piston to stay in place but keep it adjustable I will drill a small hole and tap it to run a set screw to tighten it down to the post. Don't have the LED module yet but the piston is about half the weight of the stock signals without it so shouldn't be much heavier with it installed. Will probably clean up the pistons and paint them or find someone to blast them. Did a little research and found a couple custom shops had made a piston tail light but nothing quite like this.

That is so freakin cool. Its obvious what it is to someone who knows bikes, but thats part of what makes it cool!!! It almost looks lke it was made for that ...meant for that purpose. Nice. Probably a hair more durABLE THAN the orriginals. Put some LEDs in there . A nice little round cluster w/ a good filter/cover.

Thanks, there are some nice options out there but im having to wait on some other parts to come in before I can get the bike running so thought while im waiting I can try to make something unique. Was thinking about trying out a set of these... http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200391264_200391264?cm_sp=Upsells-_-Top%20Sellers-_-Product%20Page
Went ahead and ordered some of these though, way more expensive but over 30 more LED's so would be tons brighter and could have running lights...
